Panthers - Bucs
the mods edited that if you remember
damn it! I was hoping I was the only one…

…can we call this one a draw then?

Big game for the defense. The defense has looked like crap the past two games other then a nice play late last week. For this team to win in the playoffs, the defense has got to to get it together this week. Fortunately, the offense has shown the ability, the past two weeks, to put up decent number's point wise.

Garcia (and any other accurate QB) pick us apart because we play too much zone with our corners playing 10+yds off in their coverage. Even when we blitz, our secondary backs off their coverage.

Give 'em a free chuck (inside 5 yds) to slow them down on the blitz.

Either way, hell yeah, go Panthers … biggest regular season game I can think of in franchise history.

That pisses me off more than anything.

and if you watched the GB - NO Monday night game a couple of weeks ago, you would’ve noticed that the Packers gave up some big returns to the Saints.

Not too sure if the Panthers have good special teams or it was exaggerated because the CheesePeople have less than stellar coverage efforts on special teams.

I had to email this chump…wow he is venemous. His wife must of got knocked up by a Panther at some point.

dude, do you live in Tampa?? jeeezus that SI piece is comedy.

according to Sagarin, the Panthers have played the more difficult schedule, but never let facts get in the way. The Panthers kill the Chiefs and its not good, but the Bucs win is??

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/sagarin/nfl08.htm

and the New Orleans mention of Shockey and Bush? Maybe they should injure themselves vs the Panthers.

also, I like how you fail to mention Carolina was missing 1/2 their O line almost all year

and while I am piling on…Steve Smith missed the first 2 games!!!

I’d also say you fail pretty good and not mentioning the NFC south record at home where the home team is 22-2 (or there about), that certainly plays a part.

but as George Cosnanza said…“its not a lie, if you believe it”

thx,
Panther PSL holder

Yeah, sounds like he is waving a Bucs pom pom as he was writing this.

The Bucs had a “gutty win over the Bears.” The Panthers “rallied from 14 down to nip the Bears, who’ve shown a Costanza-like inability to close in '08.”

The Panthers beat “New Orleans, which was missing Reggie Bush and Jeremy Shockey for half the game.” The Bucs “loss to New Orleans stung, but Tampa was in position to take that one when Garcia tossed an interception at the Saints’ 20 with 40 seconds left. Them’s the breaks.” Tough break.

He bashes the Panthers for giving the Lions a 10-0 lead, but the Bucs just “had a slow start against Detroit, falling behind 17-0 before waking up and winning by 18.”

He also give the Bucs credit for “a solid four-point loss in Dallas.”

What a jacka$$.

this article has some amazing ignorance:

Dwayne Jarrett, who we can safely call a disaster at this point. No we have an extra kicker -3, which means it Hacket or Jarett every Sun.
On the occasions that this two-man act is sufficient, as it was last week against Green Bay when Smith caught four crucial balls for 105 yards, Carolina's running game opens up, hence 128 total rushing yards and five touchdowns in a back-and-forth 35-31 win. Huh, Smith caught nothing in the first half and we ran like nuts????
Without Smith's two big catches, each of which took Carolina down to the one, the Panthers would have been in a heap of trouble. Yeah, same could be said for the Giants catch in the Superbowl last year, and nearly every other close contest played in sports history
His second, one quarter later, got my attention as well, but for the wrong reasons. On that play Peppers had Rodgers on the run along the right sideline. Green Bay was marching into Carolina territory for the go-ahead score and was already in field goal position. As Rodgers neared the sideline it was clear on television that Peppers should have pulled up and settled for what would have been no gain. Instead, he put his shoulder down and launched into Rodgers, drawing a late hit penalty...Um yeah and the qtr before that Rodgers snuck up field on the sideline for extra yards because we let him off the hook
Five minutes with their schedules tells me which of these two teams is legit, and it ain't Carolina. What?? Our SOS is 2 spots better
The Week 1 loss to New Orleans stung, but Tampa was in position to take that one when Garcia tossed an interception at the Saints' 20 with 40 seconds left. Them's the breaks. Kind of like Smiths catches vs Greenbay you discount in the closing seconds?
In fairness, the manner in which the two teams worked through their schedules looks pretty similarly, but I give Tampa the edge for two reasons. First: timing. They nipped the Vikes and the Chiefs when those opponents were playing their best football. Same can be said about their loss to Denver. And Dallas's victory was a must-win for the 'Boys. Carolina, on the other hand, lost to the Vikings when they still looked lifeless; and their wins against Detroit, Kansas City and Oakland came when those teams were in their worst shape. Are you f'n kidding me? Tampa beating KC is more impressive than our 35-0 win?
Easy pick. Tampa locks down Smith, probably with the physical Ronde Barber; and the combination of interior guys like Jovan Haye and Chris Hovan paired with Brooks and Barrett Ruud
coming from the 'backer spots shuts down the Carolina run game. Yeah easy pick, the NFC south is 22-2 at home, nice odds buddy.
A solid 4 point loss to the Romo-less Cowboys. I wouldn’t put that as a solid loss considering Brad Johnson was aweful at QB this year, yet he threw 122 yards and they beat TB.

Indeed, Mark Jones has been awesome, especially when you look at the past couple of seasons on kick returns.

Adam Duerson, this must be Peter King’s adopted son that he brought in just to bash the panthers. I hope jeff garcia comes down with freclitis or something, and any win against an NFC East team not from NY is bunk, I think this division has been exposed long ago as soft and weak. Didn’t the bucks struggle against KC or Detriot, and oooh, 23 points and a last second winner against the defense-less saints, geez I hope we can put to bed on monday three things, panther doubting by the press off a few bad games, the loss at TB, and the constant undue media a**-kissing of this team just because they want to see a team play the super bowl on their home field.

He'd be a lot better if he didn't get tackled by kickers every time he runs it back to the 50. Good enough, though, I guess.

He is much better than we have had the past few seasons, where we could barely get to the 20 on kickoff returns. I think the last time we returned one for a TD was in 2003.

The media secretly wants us to win which is why they’re bashing us so badly (I can hope right?). I love being the underdog.

Please tell me you sent this to them?

I can’t stand either team but you pretty much owned that guy with every point or atleast pointed out how he was hypocritical.

I’d put up a fancy image but I don’t have my picture book present.

i have a bad feeling about the game too. Panthers have been too inconsistent, and TB throttled us earlier.

If we win, I think Smitty will bail us out with some stupid crazy impossible catches

I totally agree this game gives me the jitters. Don’t like it at all. I feel like beating Tampa 99 times in a row is catching up with us.

football is a funny thing though, with 2 good teams the slightest slump out of a key player could make the difference either way.

do you remember 2005, the Bears killed us in Chicago. Then in the playoffs we went up there and smacked that ass. It was the strangest thing.

Yea no crap a Cowboys team that got manhandled by the RAMS the week before.

The defense against Garcia is simple, shut down the run game, bump with the corners and blitz him. No way the Panthers lose this one, matter of fact, you’d find me putting money on the chances that Garcia is hobbling off the field at the end of the game rather than putting money on Tampa’s chances to win.

BTW, they are talking about the Bucs LBs like they are Gods and they will single handedly shut down the running game, last time I checked in a 4-3 setup, the DTs are the key to stopping the run.

I haven’t seen him get tackled by a kicker. I’ve seen him have to shift his direction because the kicker was plugging the final gap.

man the more I look at that SI piece, the more I realize that shock journalism sucks. He doesn’t believe half of what he wrote, he is just inciting readers sort of like Mark Packer.
