Panthers - Bucs
Game Day. Go Panthers. Nothing left to say, except it’s gonna be COLD. The good news is that I don’t even have to ice down my cooler for tailgating before heading to work.
Just secured my usual tailgate spot. The extra 30 minute walk to my office was a frigid one this morning, but totally worth it. Supposed to leave work at 3 but I don’t know if I can wait that long.

I got an idea, lets shake up a bottle of Dom and spray everyone in a restaurant.

dumbass- and to boot look at the back of the Observer sports page today

Bucs 24 - Panthers 17

Tampa Bay Bucaneers:

5W 34L

when temp at kickoff is under 50 degrees

NFC South 22-2 at home this year

Our defense is tired and worn down. We need the offense to sustain drives tonight and keep them off the field.

Ideal situation - we get a special teams score and we move the ball effectively on the ground.

This game is going to be won on 3rd downs. Garcia murders our soft rush 4 cover 2 by moving around in and out of the pocket until the middle opens up for a pass or a QB scramble. We have to keep him in the pocket and get pressure on him, forcing him to make quick throws to covered receivers, especially on 3rd down. Gotta keep them in 3rd & longs too.

On offense, we cant pull this 3 and out crap. I love our home run threats, but we need a grinder that can eat clock and get first downs reliably. A Panther seven or eight minute drive in the first & second quarter would be ideal.

I know that is a compelling stat but I’d prefer to see that stat since 2000 at the latest. It’s easy to look that pathetic when you were the worst franchise since existence until the last 5-8 years. It’s also totally different playing in Chicago or Green Bay when it is 28 degrees (15 degrees with wind chill) as it was in the old NFC Central, than it is to play in Charlotte, NC when it’s 38-40 degrees at kickoff, and a marginal wind factor.

While that 22-2 stat is nice to, here’s a better number… 27-3. That’s the score from the previous meeting. They won it pretty handily.

I’d like to see Carolina win (largely b/c I have their D tonight), but I don’t know.

I know its crap but more hate from Peter King @ SI:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/peter_king/12/07/Week14/5.html

He starts by saying he likes the panthers, then he says he likes the Falcons better to take the division even though they (as of right now) have 2 more losses and then he proclaims Tampa Bay will win big tonight and ranks the panthers below the Bucs AND the Falcons in his fine 15 and his only comment about the panthers is how easy our schedule was and how hard it will be now. Why not randk the saints above us too? Why not, of course the team that is tied for the division lead is just going to disappear. Don’t hide it anymore Mr. King, you hate the panthers, this isn’t just pot-stirring and god I hope you have something to say whne the Panthers smoke TB and you guys have to admit you overhyped an above average football team because it would just be sooo cool to play the super bowl at home. I don’t recall TB smoking anyone quite as bad as they smoked the panthers, we were flat and they were great. It was somewhat of a fluke and TB had just switched from Griese to Garcia. We should be prepared for this one, I trust in Fox, there will be a plan for Garcia.

Did you read Jawarski’s piece today in the Observer?? Pure awesome. He says we need to beat the Cover 2 with a 3rd reciever. Maybe Dwayne Jarret gets more PT tonight.

I think if Fox goes double tight end, we’re focked…then Gruden puts 8 men in the box.

Our defense is tired and worn down. We need the offense to sustain drives tonight and keep them off the field.

they are not worn down…they sucked the last 2 weeks because of mental breakdowns, especially miscommunication in the secondary.

Jaws said Tampa has no offensive talent, I suspect we hold Tampa under 10 tonight.

We are due defensively, after giving up 800 yds in 2 games (after being 2nd in the NFL for scoring defense)

we could also only score 7 :lmao:

I’m looking forward to the game tonight, even though i’m going to freeze my butt off! Hopefully it wont be like the game earlier this year when TB killed us. If we play like we have the past few weeks then it’s not going to be pretty.

anyone who lists the last game as a reason why TB will win, you either didn’t watch the game or didn’t pay attention. that game was a fluke, it was IN TB on a hot sunday afternoon above 100 I think, and they had just switched QBs mid-week (which lost us 2 of our 3 games…if you dont think that makes a big impact, you shouldnt be talking sports)

let me say again. we’ve lost 3 games on the road. yeah, one was to tampa bay in one of the toughest places to play (esp when it’s 100). we are undefeated at home. the last time we played tampa on a monday night, we smashed the balls out of them.

i personally think cadillac williams might have the potential to make or break this game for TB. he’s finally back from an injury he suffered at carolina. if he’s not ready or he’s thinking about the fact that he got injured there too much, he might single handedly cause them a good bit of problems. if he’s giving them 4 a carry, he might cause us a good bit of problems. all i know is our defense has stopped enough superstar running backs this year for me to not be worried too much about it.

bucs will win.

It’s not exactly 65 degrees here in August. Temperature is BS, sorry, this isn’t GB in December. They practice for good portions of the summer in temperatures like that, not to mention they are athletes (most) in peak physical condition.

By them switching QB’s may have hurt you, but the reason he played was due to injury so if they had no idea that they may face a different QB, then that’s just being naive. Garcia can move next to the statue Griese, so I’ll give that a little validity. However, they’re offense still struggled. That’s going to be there main issue tonight again.

Above all I hope we come out pissed! No more flat starts let’s hit’ em in the mouth and never let up.

Garcia is a hell of a quarterback, and our secondary seems to give up pass plays to patient quarterbacks… I’m kind of worried about this one.

I’m not sure why no one chooses to address the fact that TB sucks on the road against bad teams. We’re not one of those bad teams. We’re undefeated at home, and it’s more than likely we’ll split the series. Look at our series with the Falcons. Matt Ryan came into BoA with a good Falcons team and a #1 rushing offense and got literally spanked, even after Hochuli took a TD away from Richard Marshall. Then we go down there to their place and get owned, because there’s some things that good teams don’t do.

Good teams split, they don’t get swept. Good teams finish games at home. Good teams win ugly games on the road. Good teams take advantage of opportunities. And most importantly, even BAD teams can win at home on MN. Remember, when we played TB, they were in danger of going down 2 games to us, so the pressure was completely on them to perform, and they did, while we played our worst game of the year in all 3 phases.

If we had smashed them at our house and were going down there for a Monday Night game with the chance to sweep, I would be smart enough to know that winning would be less than likely. I understand people that like to go against the grain so you can be right if something completely unlikely happens, but you have to remember…it’s completely unlikely that TB will not get spanked not unlike every other team at BoA. Yes, I realize that’s like a quadruple negative, but hey, you picked the terrible road team to beat the undefeated home team on a MONDAY NIGHT. I’m assuming that means you haven’t been to a MNF game, so I’ll let it go.

Home teams are 10-4 on MNF…and if you’ll look at those 4 losses, you might change your mind. Oakland at home, Saints to the Vikings on missed FG, Pitt had to beat the Redskins for Obama (Since 1936, the Redskins are 17-1 in determining the result of the upcoming election), and Buffalo losing to the Browns by 2. Let’s throw in the fact that the undefeated Super Bowl Champs lost @ Cleveland on a MN. Would that happen on a Sunday?

I’ve at least tried to explain my perception of what will happen without being a terrible homer, but if you’re still not convinced, feel free to tune in and we’ll see what happens.

tonight is a streetfight…you can throw any stat out…now that the Gmen lost, there is blood in the water for a bye/2 home games.

the Gmen losing upped the ante tonight

for once, Panthers gear outnumbers UNC-CH gear on campus today.

They should be the Charlotte Panthers.

I wonder how many people know the Panther logo is the states of NC and SC combined
