This just in: According to a source, the Panthers have put backup quarterback Josh McCown on injured reserve and now are looking to sign a quarterback to serve as Jake Delhomme’s backup.
McCown suffered knee and foot injuries in Sunday’s 38-10 loss to Philadelphia. It appeared he would be back back in a month or less, but the Panthers decided to put him on IR.
Also-
Just confirmed that the Panthers have contacted representatives for A.J. Feeley, expressing interest in the former Eagles backup quarterback who was released after Philadelphia signed Michael Vick last month.
He looks like the leading candidate to replace Josh McCown as Jake Delhomme’s backup.
We can get Garcia next week. He’ll ask to be cut after Vick comes back because he doesn’t want to be 3rd string. I think it sucks Philly signed a decent QB for 1 week anyway. If you’re looking for a 1 week wonder, don’t get the best, that screws everyone else over.
Although it is likely a one week move I think it was the best move for Garcia. If McNabb can’t go this weekend and how bad Kolb looked yesterday I think Garcia has a legitimate shot at starting. If McNabb is back in week 3 I think you will see Vick as the backup and Kolb as the third stringer, but Garcia will have a week to show other teams whether or not he can play. If he would have signed with the Panthers the chance is lower that he sees the field.
I would’ve liked to have seen the Panthers sign a QB that could’ve at least provided some competition to Delhomme this year and over the offseason. With McCown’s contract expiring this year I highly doubt he will be returning next year.
Jackson sucks- if you're going that direction play Moore.
It's a little hard to judge Jackson yet. His coach is terrible. Really really terrible. Jackson might be bad, or he might just need a different situation.
Well… Actually, a short season. 16 games and the season is over… and the last 3 or 4 games may be meaningless anyway if we’ve already mathematically eliminated ourselves from the playoffs. I hope I’m wrong.
No “major improvement” at QB is available, and with the way the OL played yesterday, it probably wouldnt matter if one was available.
All good QBs are on an NFL roster already. Nobody is a good option, quite honestly.
I don’t buy that. If we had a scouting dept worth a damn, there are plenty of good QBs that are not household names on practice squads, CFL, and Arena League. Kurt Warner, Delhomme, Romo guys like that chomping at the bit and hungry.
