Pat Forde on Calipari

Cal is one pathetic punk who’s living in a dream world. heehee

Now I know why I haven’t seen any black helicopters lately. They’re all circling Memphis.

Wow. That was “in your face”. I’m sure if asked about the article, Calipari would know nothing about it.

Has he ever done anything right?

“or at least somebody who isn’t against Memphis”

:o :o :o :o :o :o

:scared: :scared: :scared: :scared:

He is an honest to goodness idiot.

People like Calipari make Huggins seem like Santa Claus.

Attendance has plummeted from more than 17,000 fans per game in Cal's first year at the Pyramid to an average of 9,058 fans per game this year, the Tigers' first year playing in the Grizzlies' FedEx Forum. Calipari blames the attendance drop on a poorly-marketed transition to the new arena, but the bleak crowds haven't been given much to come see.

Actually, it could be interesting to see what he blames next season’s attendance on. It couldn’t be a crappy conference. Maybe the Grizzlies are “making” his team play at bad times.

And for more fun reading… check this out.

I guarantee that won’t sit well with Memphis fans, but I have a hard time finding anything really wrong with that article. Obviously it focuses more on the negative aspects of Memphis’ program, but there have been more negatives for them over the past few years than there have been positives.

There’s no reason Memphis shouldn’t be a top 25 team year in and year out. If you listened to a lot of their fans, you’d think that they are. But they’re not. As their fans like to point so often, they have one of the top recruiting classes every year. They play in the FedEx Forum, which is probably a bit of a problem since it’s off-campus, but is a very nice facility nonetheless. Their fans often cite their “state-of-the-art facilities” as one of the greatest things about their program. They’re probably right to an extent. Also, they’ve got John Calipari, who is one of the better-known coaches not only in C-USA, but in the nation. Regardless of your opinion of the guy, he’s a pretty big-name coach. Also, over the past few years, Conference USA had steadily become a more powerful force in the college basketball world. Their schedule has included the likes of Cincinnati, Louisville, Marquette, DePaul, and Charlotte in the conference, as well as some pretty good out-of-conference opponents. And as their fans are so quick to point out, they have plenty of TV games. This year I think they have 12 on ESPN or ESPN2, and an additional 6 on ESPN+. And for what it’s worth, they have a pretty decent tradition. They’ve had more success in the past than a lot of schools in the conference or in their area.

Unfortunately for them, they are not an elite program, despite all of the things they have going for them, and despite what their fans might think. They give Charlotte fans crap, telling them to enjoy another “one-and-done in the NCAA,” but they just won their first NCAA tournament game in nearly 10 years last year before getting smacked in the second round. They’ve been to two NITs in Calipari’s first four years, and this year only looks like it might be better because of their conference record and the fact that the conference tournament is in Memphis. Their overall record is mediocre, and their RPI is atrocious. To me, they’re half a step above NC State this year as far as teams that have underachieved. The only reason they’re that half-step up is because they’ve been playing well lately. I’m sure their season would’ve been different had Banks not played, but it also would’ve been different had he not flunked out of his classes. Calipari let Banks do what he wanted, including skipping classes. Even afterwards, he let Banks continue to play, even though he knew it was hurting the team. I know Iti’s nowhere near the level of Sean Banks, but when Iti’s really hurting the team, at least Coach Lutz has the decency to pull him out most of the time. If Banks hadn’t done his team a favor and flunked out, Memphis would probably be somewhere around 14-13, maybe even 13-14 or 12-15.

Also, their attendance is nothing to get all that excited about. They give Niners fans crap about poor attendance, and while I’ll admit that I’d definitely like to see more fans at the games, we’re averaging far more than the 3,000-4,000 they seem to think a lot of times. This year, they average only a couple thousand more fans per game than the Niners do, despite a much higher seating capacity, more TV games, and a supposedly elite-level team. They also complain about Charlotte fans being whiners, and they complain about Bobby being a whiner. That article speaks volumes about Calipari’s attitude, which also seems to be the attitude of many Memphis fans. He gripes about the RPI being rigged against Memphis, he complains about the officials, he does whatever it takes to place the blame elsewhere. Meanwhile, he played Sean Banks for a good chunk of the season even though he knew he was hurting the team, his team lost three games at home to sub-100 teams, and they’re only five games above .500. He complains that his team might get a bad seed (which assumes they definitely make the tournament), but they’ve done nothing to earn a higher seed (and over half of his NCAA tournament losses have come to teams with lower seeds, so seeding obviously doesn’t help him all that much). To me, all of those things seem to be the real problems, and at least some of that has to be attributed to him.

The rest of the show he spent accepting congratulations for the team's turnaround, and railing about the RPI. When Calipari limped out on an artificial hip he got last May, applause followed him out the door and into the night -- where more threats to Memphis basketball undoubtedly lurked.

Just like the fans of his team, he’s a complete joke.

Agree what a joke the entire program is.

Forde’s article explains the irrational behavior of their fans. They’re as crazy as he is after listening to and believing his paranoid delusions for five years.

What’s next, Bobby Lutz replaced all the referees with pod people?

DON’T GO TO SLEEP CAL!

Winners smile. Losers say deal 'em dammit!!!

Hi guys it’s me ol’ Coach Cal, i just wanted to say that I have been lurking on here for a while and I now feel after my ass finally recovered from the thrashing that Eddie Basden gave me I am now able to sit down at my computer and admit that I am a whiney bitch, thank you all for calling me out on it…that is all.

I just saw Cal on Game Day and he is weak. He just made himself to look like the innocent victim when he mentioned that a lot of “stuff was thrown” at him in Charlotte and how he didn’t have any part of it. He was just as responsible if not more responsible for what went down the other night than anybody else. What a nerd.

The facts are flexible in Cal's world, where agendas must be set and vigilance maintained.

That pretty much sums up most of what I’ve ever seen and heard from Memphis and its fans right there!

 :lmao:  :lmao:

All the more reason to pull for Louisville to beat Memphis then we can beat Louisville mano y mano for the title.
