PG DeMario Ceaser - 2007

Well, this was a surprise to see…

Under ‘2007 Players Considering - Charlotte’ in ESPN.com

http://insider.espn.go.com/ncb/recruiting/tracker/school?schoolId=2429&season=2007&action=login&appRedirect=http%3a%2f%2finsider.espn.go.com%2fncb%2frecruiting%2ftracker%2fschool%3fschoolId%3d2429%26season%3d2007

When I clicked on his name…I couldn’t see anything because I’m not an ESPN insider. But I did notice: ‘Last Updated 5/18/2007’

What’s the scoop?

Here is the info according to insider:

Someone tell me why another guard? Would we really put another scholarship with a guard. I thought we needed to work on our inside game and Defense?

especially a two star guard. if we are able to get a guy who is a four or five star player, i dont care if were loaded at the position but this guy doesnt seem to merit a scholarship.

Where are all these guards everyone thinks we have? Most of our players are small forwards. Guards: Ian, Lee(Senior), Lewis(graduating, probably won’t come back), Bennett, Harris (walk on).

i think we just have bigger needs. there are plently of demario caesers available later. we dont need this guy for next season as much as we need the three scholarships.

We need to find someone to replace Leemire. Only player with potential for that right now is Bennett, imo. What if he doesn’t pan out? You want our team resting on Ian Andersen’s shoulders at the SG position?

We should definitely use this scholarship if there is a 2star available for us to pick up. We have done a lot of great things with 2 star players. We could use a quality PG for the future. I don’t think it will be Harris but I could be wrong.

First, it’s Barnett. Second, I think Ian has a lot of potential. I seem to recall hearing that Ian was one of “the guys” that was stepping up like Lutz expected of his seniors. Offensivly he went cold in the middle of the season, and his defense was nearly non-existant the first 2/3 of the season. I saw him stepping up at the end the way he needed to and hear he is busting his butt to fill the role he needs to. So yes, I want to see our team resting on the shoulders of Ian at the 2.

You want to see our team resting on the shoulders of Ian? He does have potential, basically because he can shoot. He can’t play defense on an 80 year old woman. He can’t do anything at all off the dribble.

I’m not saying he can’t improve his D and penetration ability, but he sure didn’t show any of that this year. Maybe he will turn out to be a star, but I don’t see any reason in standing around and hoping if there are other players out there that we could get. Next years class will be the most important of all. It is a must that we pick up a quality PG and SG to go with the atheticism that this team has.

Well, I’d rather be trusting it to him than someone who hasn’t played a day of D1…

I’m still mulling this one over.

I think most people realize that the hardest positions to recruit are center and point guard. Like, I think Gaby Ngoundjo could be an awesome defensive, shot-blocking power foward, but good 5s are really tough to find. Leemire Goldwire was considered a top-notch PG prospect when we were recruiting him, but I think most everyone has concluded that he’s a much more natural shooting guard. That’s the same scouting report I’ve heard for Gerrity - Gerrity is supposed to be a terrific player, but don’t expect a prototypical ‘John Stockton’ PG or (dare I say) Sean Colson.

That’s why I think Andre Cornelius should be among our top targets in 2008. Having a pass-first playmaking point guard, Ian/Javarris at the 2, and Gerrity playing Goldwire-like minutes at combo-guard is a jizz-worthy fantasy. You can also throw in speedy Dijuan Harris and solid veteran Jerrel Lewis.

Signing DaMario Ceaser would probably mean that we don’t have a shot at Cornelius. :unhappy:

Then again, maybe we aren’t even pursuing Ceaser. This might even be ESPN doing some Spring Cleaning after the signing deadline. They may have listed Charlotte as the third-in-line with interest simply because we watched him play with HS teammate Phil Jones.

They feel good about Harris. I don’t see us signing another PG for 07.

while watchign Cornelius play, I didn’t see him as a pass-first guard. He’s a guy that wants the ball in his hands so he can score, not distribute. Just my take on the guy from one game though. He did dominate, and looked very impressive. Has a killer instinct about him.
while watching Cornelius play, I didn’t see him as a pass-first guard.
Thanks for the correction. I was probably making false assumptions based on his size.

I’m starting to get more and more interested in this Harris kid. I just hope it’s not based on Leftyisms. The man is the Patron Saint of Hype.
