PG Vincent Williams

“interested in playing in the Atlantic 10 Conference, Conference USA and Colonial Athletic Association”

“The coach said Saint Louis and UAB have extended scholarship offers for next year. He said several other schools, including UNC Charlotte and NC State, have also been looking at the South Florida guard.”

“He’s a hell of an athlete,” Herron said. “He high jumps 6-6. He can get to the basket. He can score. He can play defense. His main weakness is strength.”

averaged 26.2 points, 6.3 assists and 2.7 steals this year

We need to get on this.

between him, bryan bynes, akeem richmond and jason calliste, i have trouble believing that we cant land one. especially with the lack of depth we have at pg.

I almost hope we don’t land Calliste. Although he’s probably the best of the three, he has been reported to have academic problems and with the luck of the niners, he’d be declared ineligible and we’d be in the same situation as this year.

So have we made an offer to this guy, what year is he graduating?

Well, looks like only he and Richmond are left.

I don’t like the idea of anybody named “Richmond” on our roster.

Hey, if he’s anything like Mitch, I don’t care what his last name is!

So have we made an offer to this guy, what year is he graduating?

I believe he is a junior. So he won’t help next year.

The more I think about it, the more I convince myself that we really should get a JUCO PG for the immediate help of Dijuan. Next year, he learns the system and backs up Dijuan- then takes over the starting spot after Dijuan graduates and we get a 4 year guy to back him up to eventually take over the starting spot after the JUCO graduates. I think this is a great scenario.

He is a senior - Class of '09 - same as Braswell & Sherrill.

If a site lists him for '10, it may be because he was expected to go to prep school and work on his strength. But with Saint Louis & UAB offering scholarships, he’s unlikely to go that route now.

I believe that is the exact approach the coaches are using. Traynham seems like he may be a good fit for this exact strategy. The comparisons to Dijuan are obvious, except I believe he’s scoring more than Dijuan ever did in HS. His height concerns me a little. I’ve seen 5’8" and I’ve seen 5’6". I’ll trust the coaches to know if he can play as hard as a Dijuan, even if he’s only 5’6".

Hmmm, that makes it very interesting then.

per scout.com article
“He’s a 2009 kid,” Herron said. “We were going to go prep. Marquette wanted him as a 2010. He only weighs 150 pounds. He’s had such a good senior year that people are coming around.”
They’ve had some pretty decent guards lately.

Someone on our free rivals.com message board asked if we are still recruiting him. We are not listed listed right now.

 wouldn’t be as bad, if I hadn’t posted on him already! :lmao:

I like this kid also as an option. He just got a qualifying score on the SAT, and still has an interest in us. Kummer is recruiting him, so hopefully we can get him to come take a visit soon.

He also has a couple of highlight videos on Rivals that are impressive. I am not sure if you can view them if you don’t have the paid account.

Good update from Niner report on Williams. We are in top 4 with Georgia, Oklahoma and NC State. He averaged 26 pts w/ 6 assists per game. Coach says he’s quick and can “flat out shoot the rock.”

“NC State, Oklahoma, Georgia and Charlotte are the main ones, but Georgia is number one for me,” said Williams.
