I’m glad he brought up my opinions but they were still missing some context.

They framed up portal and NIL as winning vs losing, when that actually has little to do with it. The resistance to NIL isn’t based on losing.

Saw Hunter on youtube, he said we paid Odeon $500k NIL? Was he just saying this as a hypothetical? Or was this fact?

Can someone clarify……

Or was this more of Biff type facts😳

  • Max Brown so athletic he was drafted by the White Sox
  • Biff had fully funded our womans Softball program….

Oden getting 509k is what I heard last season.

Not sure he gave us a solid return on investment

He gets half a mill to rehab for a year and then transfers out.

If I had contributed to NIL I’d be furious at him leaving. As it is, it shows what this is all about. Him getting paid half a mill with free medical, physical therapy, room and board, and an education… and there is zero loyalty. Whatever.

I’m not going to be concerned with people complaining about athletes and their on the field performances any longer.

0 pts and 0 rebounds, wonder if he just sat it out at the end of the year?

And Max Brown, how much did we pay him?

I used to insist on never booing our own players and really having an issue with fans going after players beyond good nature ribbing, but now? They are professionals. You take cash go do your Fn job. I don’t want to hear anyone say nothing abut they are just kids, etc

You don’t want to hear it but it’s true. It’s not the kids fault. They didn’t make these dumbass rules. The so called adults in charge did.

Like other things in the country happening now. You want a friggin circus put clowns in charge.

It’s true but those are the breaks. As
Soon as you take a pay check be it a cook in a kitchen or a QB if you fuck up at what is now your job then be prepared to deal with the ramifications.

What does suck is the kid that ain’t getting paid but is going to be treated like he is.

I agree with what you’re saying but if you cook at one restaurant and another offers you more money you’re probably gonna take the money and jump.

If you walk out in the middle of cooking my meal though I probably won’t follow you to the next restaurant haha.

Conversely if you get sick and are unable to ever cook anything at my restaurant I won’t pay you in full if you take a position at another one.

Correct - which is the world we are now living in with these athletes.

They are not one of us. They are not part of our campus community. They don’t give a shit about our school.

It wasn’t like it was. Eddie Jobey Diego Leemire Jarvis Highsmith Larry - in today’s environment they probably leave, but because they couldn’t they were one of us and those guys now bleed green. Not anymore.

They wanted to be pros so now they are and will be held to that standard.

What sucks for us is we may never see that kind of player again.

I totally agree with everything you’re saying. Where we part company is that I don’t blame the kids for taking the money.

I’ve learned in my life that there is strength in numbers. And that number is 1. You better take care of yourself because nobody else is gonna do it.

Oh I don’t blame the kids for taking the money. I’m just saying they are taking money to play and that changes the dynamic with the fans. Now they are pros not college kids playing.

Don’t expect me to treat you like I have treated our players in the past.

If your QB is making 4 mil a game and stinks it up I have zero problems with fans getting angry now. Boo his ass. Rip him on the radio. Fair game.

Don’t tell anybody but they’ve always been getting paid. Ssshhhhh….

The top kids did at a handful of schools and they got something maybe a car maybe 50k. Certainly nothing either in volume of players getting paid or amounts of payments or where those payments came from and with the free movement it’s even more pronounced.

Jobey played here, is an all time great and a Niner to the bone. If he played now after. Year or two here he’s making 750k at some p4 school.

I really didn’t care if some 5 star got a free car at Clemson. That didn’t impact us and because it was against the rules the player had to be worth the risk. Now you have kids like Patterson or Graves, who relatively aren’t that good, getting paid just because that’s the market and it’s not even to top programs.

College was special because it wasn’t a pro model.

Once again I agree. the system blows, that’s why I watch professional sports. I’ve been saying there should be separate divisions as long as I’ve been posting on this board and way before that.

I’m a realist to a fault. Always have been.

What’s funny is I quit watching prosports because the money just got too big - salaries, tickets, stadium cost, all of it. The only prosports I watch now are soccer.

The biggest sticking point for me though is our students paying fees for all of this.

I agree it does suck for students.

I’ve met you and you’re a bright dude so you have to know soccer players are the highest mofos in sports. Lol.

They are! But their system makes so much more sense with relegation and promotion and transfer fees and the tickets are affordable and the teams don’t move!
