I think app is more important of a win today bc it is game 1, inBOA, plus gives us an opportunity to start passing them as a program.
clt says we have passed appy and eCu
Who do you want to have as a rival then? Who do you see as a rival now? Who are our natural rivals? Iām real curious what your thoughts are because to me ECU and App are THE natural rivals for us. Thoughts?
More importantly imo is they with both app and ECU having big football fanbases these three schools can actually start putting a dent in the acc dominated coverage and excitement. Whatās a better rivalry app vs clt or ncsu vs wake forest?
clt says eCu is our rival
same conference
amazingly they are also R1
also strong at baseball
ā¦ā¦ and weāve actually beaten them (twice).
Just because we beat them twice does not mean we have passed them. They can come and win the next 10 games. Can we still say we passed them?
I donāt think thatās wrong, but i miss having Cincinnati as a rival. Obviously, we have a ways to go to be rivsls with a big 12 team but with the advantages we have of being in a major city, Iād like to think that winning could bring major dollars from some of tge big companies in town.
I know we say this, but during our two previous successes stories in basketball the business community didnāt come flying in to support us, nor did we really grow our fanbase. Late 70s can be attributed to Charlotte being smaller but the early 90s to 2005 run did not do much for us. Maybe thatās because Judy didnāt have a clue how to build on it, but I donāt have much faith in either the Charlotte casuals or the business community stepping up.
Agree, I think our short term attainable goals should be to beat App in football an work to pass ECU in all major sports. Contrary to some beliefs on here, we are not ahead of ECU. I spend a lot of time in eastern NC and yes they know we recently beat them in football, buy no one is concerned about Charlotte sports passing them.
We all want to believe the mighty Charlotte corporate world is coming to support us, but - Well - just look at the past.
Agreed. Growth is organic for us. We have grown but itās largely the university community itself not the city backing us. Iām sure a lot in town wish us well but there are a ton of people in town that donāt have a connection with the school. We continue to grow our alumni base and hopefully the younger grads will have fond memories of the program and continue to support us.
Iāve never seen as few general sports fan these days but Iāve also never seen this much charlotte gear being warn around town either.
Itās kind of like we are growing the fan base but itās growing because our alumni base is growing and the number of subsequent connections to the school are growing.
I donāt think we will hit with the community at large unless we have a sustained run of excellence.
It just takes time. ECU and App have 93 and 97 year histories. You canāt replicate that in one generation.
We have grown tremendously in sports over our history. That is because we are growing our school and our community. We just have to keep nose to the grindstone and be ready for whatever comes next.
And be fiscally responsible. There is no rainmaker who is going to parachute in and save us if we get in deep debt. We cannot survive a UCLA or Rutgers situation. We have to be smarter than those kind of programs.
Umm, havenāt we been around 75 or so years???
79 years as an institution.
62 years as a 4-year school.
60 years as a university.
55 years as an NCAA D-I program.
10 years as an FBS program.
Football history.
Didnāt say we had passed them. Just added to the post that ECU was more of a rival.
- App
- Ezu
- Unc-ch
- Georgia
Call it what you want to, we have 2 Wās and they have 2 Lās!!!

You think they are saying the same thing about us in basketball.
