positives from tonight

Originally posted by ninerfan55@Jan 19 2005, 09:46 PM whats this we suck garbage? we had a bad game. a very bad game. i dont understand why people have to start with the we suck stuff. we have to stick by this team.
They sky is falling!!! The sky is falling!!!!

We had a bad game people. They do happen. The chances of us winning this game without Mitch, after they lost to UL and at their place were slim to begin with.

We played horrible. Games like that happen. Cincy is not 22 points better than us.

It’s one game. We’ll rebound against Marquette.

Positive of the game: I get to buy a new coffee table because I almost put my fist through the one we have watching the 2nd half. :ticked:

We didn’t lose by as many as ECU did tonite…

Biggest positive for me…I got to read NORMAN NINERS last post and I burst out laughing. For a minute it made me forget about the game. Thanks Norman!

Originally posted by Tenniner@Jan 19 2005, 08:56 PM Iti and Withers will both be back next year!!!

On second thought, is that a positive?

I WAS THINKING THE SAME THING…At the begining of this year i was like damn Curt’s going to the NBA, now I’m like damn, Curt’s coming back next year…

I’m sorry but he wants to go to the NBA??? If there werw WNBA scouts there they would tell him to go overseas and play with girls…

LETS GO NINERS BEAT MARQUETTE…PLEASE…I MEAN SERIOUSLY…COME ON…PLEASE…WOOOOO

When are we going to have a good game??? I’m big time down after that showing. We gave them open looks all night…we didn’t rebound…Curt looked horrible… The only one who showed up was Ed and Plav. Ed can play and Plav can shoot but thats it. Curt looks good and compiles nice stats against lesser foes but going up against a team with size he has no offensive skills. Who do we have to score? Lee looked horrible. Shoot first then when you get stopped pass. Our offense is pathetic and its better than our Defense and rebounding. Can we win a few against the Marq. and UAB’s and get lucky and sneek in as 9 seed to get bounced early again. Big time bumming boys…big time.

I said it last year after we lost to them at home and I’ll say it again after tonight. We have to hit the recruiting trail if we want to get to the next level. And I know it’s not that easy. But some times you’re just outmanned. I’m not saying it as an excuse either. I’m just saying I shouldn’t be surprised if we get outplayed.

You can coach defensive rebounding to a certain extent. But for the most part, their offensive rebounding is pure athleticism.

Having said that, I do think we can use CW more. The coches should watch tonight’s tape to see how Maxiell got open in the second half. The same thing happened last year at home. His shots just look too easy.

Only positive = Plavich. He played very well.

As I have said in about three other posts…losing is one thing but the way we lost tonight is particularly frustrating although very common for our televised games. And, that is with or without Baldwin. We looked half asleep.

Winning 9 in a row is great and no we won’t win out. BUT, finally a national TV game and we make a showing like that? Huh? I told every ACC fan at work to watch us on TV tonight…and if they did, what are they thinking? That was a sad showing.

Plavich, basketball’s Dave Kingman, had a three homer game.

the only positive was University Picassos had $2.50 Guiness pints.

The box score that I see has Plavich as 6-14 from 3 point land, which is 42%, plus he had one turnover and two steals. I, too, thought he played very well and with the confidence that no one else showed.

I’m glad I got new pain pills from the doctor today, cause now I am finally feeling no pain.

I can’t wait to see how the team looks against Marquette. It will be a tough coaching job to get the psyche of this team back where it needs to be to beat the Golden Eagles (or whatever they are) at their place. Ealier today I was very confident we could take them, but now we will need a good psychologist.

GO NINERS!!!

Normmm. Huggins and Pitino both say we have the best talent in the league? Are they blowing smoke?

That’s a valid statement because if you watch most of our guys, they don’t play with confidence. Plav does and for the most part, Eddie and Mitch do. But the rest of our guys usually look like they’re timid on the court. Plav may not take the best of shots at times but at least in his mind, he believes every shot is going down. And it’s a shame the rest of our guys can’t play like that.

Before the season started, I would have never said this but I’m starting to really like Plav and the head he has on his shoulders. His confidence and will to win needs to rub off on the other guys. Until our other guys learn how to play, Plav can shoot as often as he wants as far as I’m concerned.

My turn:

MANHANDLED!!! I thought we had the big guys to hang with them finally. We were beaten badly in the interior. As others have pointed out, they INTIMIDATED us from the get-go. The rest of the game we weren’t agressive (other than Plavich’s shooting).

Notice how many close-in shots we missed??? ANd notice how many we nearly threw over the backboard to prevent them from being blocked. Eddie, EJ, Curtis, and Nance all tried to lay the ball high off the glass in fear.

I do think the zone defense made it difficult for our guys to find their man to box out. But that zone worked perfectly in the first half. Field Williams killed us early in the 2nd. Then Maxiell took over and we folded without Badlwin.

Positive: Our RPI jumped way up to 72 after this game, and will jump up again after Marquette despite the outcome.

Attention all moderators: Somebody has hacked into the system and acquired Lefty’s screen name, and is now posting what I find to be “unLeftylike” comments.

Well, whomever has hacked into Lefty’s account, I couldn’t agree more with you on your assessment.

I saw that... I guess Rutgers winning helped us out a good bit.

No, that was me. That game took a toll on me. I’ll be myself again by the marquette game. Like I said, I thought Curtis, Iti/Nance, Basden could hold their own against Cincy but not in that game. That’s what really shocked me.

Amen... I'm not sure what is up with Withers, but he looks scared on offense. He made very weak moves to the basket two or three times last night and got his shot swatted. Then he started jacking up long range shots that weren't even close to going in (the 3 he banked in was pure luck). He also has a terrible time hanging on to the ball (4 turnovers last night). What is the deal with him? Can we please have the Curt from last year back?

Iti looks scared too, but that is nothing new. 2 points, 1 rebound, 3 fouls, and 2 turnovers in 18 minutes. Thats not getting it done. It’s hard to believe that this guy was ranked as the #1 center coming in as a freshman last year. He did have a couple of nice blocks though.
