The following proposal would directly affect Niner athletics.

So many different agendas.

What a freaking mess.

Instead could have proposed straight revenue sharing from either a national pool or conference pools and divided it out amongst the players, and only allowed NIL for true NIL purposes (ie video games, public appearances and commercials) and that would have been a helluva lot less messy and maybe some of the G6 might actually survive.

This is a separate proposal:

Senate Bill 229 - Authorize NIL Agency Contracts

Institutions of higher education (especially tax payer funded ones) should offer amateur sports or no sports at all.

As usual, when I try to make sense of legalese, pretty much goes over my head.

Anyway, interesting that S563 would initiate a Dept of Commerce review of NIL $5K and higher, while the national NIL Clearinghouse per the House agreement will review those of $600 and higher.

There is no way state tax dollars should be funding college payments to athletes. Thats ridiculous.

Teachers are getting shit but hey let’s pony uk money for chapel hills qb.

Fuck you.

I swear if they do this I’ll go to Raleigh and raise hell. As anti NIL as I am using my tax dollars for this while my wife gets the shaft - my blood pressure is boiling right now.

As Winter points out, there are some contradictions in S563:

On one hand it “prevents” compensation:

While later on in the proposal, it “authorizes” compensation:

The f’ing politicians can’t resist getting into the mix.

Just stay the hell away politicians. Unless you’re going to actually fix a problem !

This is insane!!!

The only thing the government should do is collectivize NIL deals across all public institutions. With a tier system depending on what division level the school competes at.

Providing tax incentives or breaks to large companies to fund superfluous sports shouldn’t be allowed. Many students already receive the beneficial scholarships provided by the NCAA.
