Yo HP ! Do ya know chicks dig dude with big . . . six shooter, don't ya? Since you're into cool pictures I thought you might enjoy a little jog down the memory lane) :shades:
Is that seriously Norm???
Is that seriously Norm???
Yes Gill ! thatās Norm of the Sunbelt Conference days. Aināt that cool? Norm used to pack heat and smoke, too. :shades: You know to be PC these days, they took those things away from Norm. Iām sure Over, HP and tons of the alum on here can fill in with tons of cool stories behind Norm of the good ole days.
Where did you dig that photo up?
Yes that is the original ābig headā Norm. I might also add that it was a female underneath the clothing. She did a good job playing the role.
Old stories⦠during the old First Union Tournament, there was a play on one end of the court where Norm was a bit too close to the baseline and got knocked silly by a Badger player. It was unintentional. The second night after Wisconsin had played the consolation game, the player who ran her over came out with a boquet of roses and apologized for the incident. It was a nice Kodak moment, of course most people never knew Norm was a she at the time.
Norm was fierce looking then.

So how many home games did we win with a mascot with a holster and a gun?
If we get a chance to do throwbacks again, I vote for having these jerseys.

Good stuff 89. Brings back some memories.
Loved the concept of the mascot smoking a pipe. I caught more grief from folks about our mascot smoking a pipe than I did about the teams record when I was in school. I think the 4 year total was in the high 20ās.
Also, loved how Norm would run onto the court holding his headā¦assumed that if he let go, he wouldāve been top heavy and just fallen over head 1st.
Wow!! I started this thread almost 2 years ago and got ZERO responses. It is brought up now and goes 2 pages. HAHAHA!!
I wish Norm would smoke a pipe and carry a gun these days. Although, thinking about it, the new āthugged outā Norm from last year might be packin some heat.
As far as the throwbacks, I would love to see them. I would even like to see us have a gold alternate jersey, that we could wear at home or on the road. Gold unis are coming back. I saw 2 or 3 NBA teams with gold unis last year.
The Wizards use them regularly, but ours are/were WAY cooler.

The Kings wore them last year too.

I had to dig it out of my 49ers collection since Sunbelt days. I thought you would enjoy it. Since you created quite a collection of cool pictures yourself, too.

Hal Wissel ! does the name tell you anything? I remember at one game against Campbell Norm did scare the Fighting Camel coach with the loud bang from the gun. The student section had a great laugh that night.
And, coach Mullins era with the same mascot that most of us were quite fond of in those days with quite a few victories. Which coach Lutz is a few games behind.
But, we did make it to the Final Four with the pipe and the gun.

I love the smoking concept, too. Since itās very original. And, it has nothing to do with animals, bird, fish ect. Besides, thereās nothing wrong with a Forty Niner relaxes with a pipe. I know folks did give me grief me about the six shooter. Well! a Niner has to protect his gold, dont you think?.:shades: Besides, thatās tradition and I miss that. Thereās nothing wrong with the current Norm. But, Iām old school and I like the āMean Greenā look (pipe, gun and all).

I like the old school stuff too. I wish we would bring back the old school Norm logo. I love the new logos, but I miss Norm. When we were upgrading our logo I thought we would get an up to date looking Norm logo, but unfortunately we dropped it all together.
any one got that charlotte tcu throwback game on dvd?
That has got to be the creepiest looking Norm.

Untrue. Our mascot during the Final Four run was actually Chuck Norris

Looking for same ⦠if thatās the ESPN Classic game I announced.
I actually have that throwback game on VHS. I was out doing something so I had to tape it. Pretty good game. Demon rained a few threes. Definetly no Eddie T-baggin cause I still have never seen that dunk to this day, only heard of its legend on here. My dream is that one day Video will surface. I do remember being impressed with how many fans actually took the throwback theme to heart and dressed up.
