The EPIC Center will be a major step for this univerity. It will help make the Charlotte region a mecca for energy firms, many of which are already here. It will also propel the University to the forefront of future energy technologies. Chapel HillAND NC State WILL do everything to stop us from getting this.

Now you've done it. This thread now has potential to be controversial. :shades:

If/when they try to prevent this, I hope someone at the school will step up and fight, not to mention going to the media in an effort to report what is/has been actually going on in Raleigh.

I personally believe this project is one of the best things to ever happen to the school.

We could become the leading energy research university in this country with the support of local power related firms like Duke, Shaw and Areva. THOSE FOLKS will try to stop the state funding.

Wow, this could be huge for the school. Huge.

Stupid economy, this was a sure-thing just a few months ago. Hopefully it gets pushed through. The ECE department needs a new home as they outgrew their corner of Woodard Hall about a month after it opened.

Funds for Charlotte projects include $57.2 million to build UNC Charlotte’s proposed energy production and infrastructure center. Work at the facility will focus on the development of infrastructure for wind, solar and biofuel power.

nice.

good news.

Very good news but I will wait till the building’s frame is up till I believe it.

as long as this goes through, I think construction starts in 2009.

Excellent, I’ll finish my masters in 2012, so this should be ready for me when I come back to get my PhD!..

Does anyone have more background on this? I’d like to know who originally pitched the EPIC project and when.

I think KTown did.

See the articles posted in the first post. Seems local power industry including my employer pushed for this.
