One of the top players in the state for 2011 and one of the top prospects in the country.
On paper, Bello is 6 feet 3. On the court, Bello is more like 6-7. Easily the best rebounding guard in the camp, the freakish athlete was an animal on the boards and the best player above the rim in the gym over the weekend. He’s one of the best athletes in his class nationally, and he is starting to improve his overall skill level to be a dangerous player at the 2 guard. His shot, ball-handling and overall feel for playing a shooting guard is still improving, but he’s getting better each time out and looks to have the pieces of the puzzle put together for a great sophomore year.
Not so much a guard, but anytime we have the opportunity to bring in a big time player, he’s always welcome :).

bump for the morning crowd.

Guess I’ll be watching some WCD games this winter.

Looks like a pretty aggresive guard.

I believe he is visiting this weekeng…this was posted on rivals this morning.

"Duce Bello, a rising star in the class of 2011, will make an unofficial visit to Charlotte. Bello is at High Point (N.C.) Westchester Country Day. "

Well he made a visit to midnight madness, is he coming in again?

Scout also is indicating he is visiting on Saturday.

“The Charlotte 49ers are set to host one of North Carolina’s top underclassmen this weekend. Deuce Bello, a shooting guard from High Point (N.C.) Westchester, will visit the 49ers campus unofficially on Saturday. Bello, a high-riser with an improving touch, is regarded as one of the elite young players at his position.”

so he visited on thursday and hes visiting again saturday. i hope thats a good sign.

any word on his visit last weekend?

Well per scout, sounds like Oklahoma State, Baylor, and Wake have offered. Memphis, USC, Miami, Notre Dame, Virginia, NC St., and Oregon showing interest.

HIT AND RUN --

Pat Kahny, head boys basketball coach at Westchester Country Day School, usually drills his team in a “Morning Madness” workout to mark the beginning of practice.

He did something different this season.

A week ago last Wednesday, the Wildcats accepted an invitation to practice where Wake Forest practices. Before the workout, Westchester’s players also got to see the Demon Deacons practice.

“It was a great way to start the season,” Kahny said.

Westchester practiced at the Miller Center on Wake’s campus in large part because of sophomore Duece Bello, a 6-foot-3 guard for the Wildcats. Bello already has received several scholarship offers from NCAA Division I schools, including Wake. The Deacon coaches want to do everything possible to build a good relationship with Bello, 16, who started getting considerable interest from colleges over the summer following an AAU tournament in Las Vegas.

The unusual practice gave Kahny, entering his 20th season at Westchester, the chance to make a point. He made sure his players noticed how dedicated college players are during workouts.

“I wanted my players to see how competitive and tenacious they were,” Kahny said. “I wanted them to realize how hard college players practice. They usually don’t get to experience a situation like that.”

What happened when the Wildcats took the court?

“I could see the fire in their eyes,” he said. “It definitely made an impact.”

Wake, which opens the season a week from tonight against N.C. Central, is ranked No. 21 by the Associated Press. Westchester’s players received a big treat when several of the Deacons hung around the practice gym to socialize with the high school kids.

Kahny was impressed with Wake’s players.

He also noticed something about James Johnson, Tony Woods, Chas McFarland and company.

“You don’t realize how big they are until you stand next to them,” Kahny recalled.

Big deal? Certainly. High school players, especially those from a small school like Westchester, rarely get the chance to experience what they experienced last week.

At practice.

i saw this kid play yesterday at the mlk classic. he is a freakish athlete. long arms, very talented. needs a lot of work on his shot as his release is low and very slow. he is however, a very talented prospect that i would love to get. i felt bad for the kid because he is a great player playing on a terrible team.

Westchester is not a bad team, you’ve got to remember they are a private school playing in a low classification and they don’t “recruit” like other schools do. They are truly academics first.

Jay Canty is a nice player for Ragsdale. He could have done better than a High Point commitment (but it still is only a verbal until next fall). Gaudio wants Bello badly and has made no secret about it.

A couple of former teammates, Jay Canty and Deuce Bello, faced each other for the opening tap on Monday night.

They traded taps for dunks in this entertaining basketball game, but Canty and Ragsdale pulled away for an 87-66 victory over Westchester Country Day School as part of the Josh Howard Foundation/N.C. Scholastic Classic at the Greensboro Coliseum.

“Everybody knew we were going to go at it,” Bello said about Canty, his friend and former teammate at both Jamestown Middle School and briefly at Ragsdale. “I just tried to go at him hard, the same way he was going at me.”

Bello, the Wildcats’ athletic sophomore guard, poured in 25 points with five dunks and two 3-pointers. But Canty, with 22 points and four dunks, had much more help during the Tigers’ easy nonconference victory.

Sophomore center Tyquan Roberts led Ragsdale (16-1) with 25 points and three 3-pointers, while senior guard Wally Jones added 16 points and two 3-pointers. Playing the final game of five contests at the seventh annual event, the Tigers jumped ahead 16-3 and never trailed.

In handing Westchester (16-1) its first loss, Ragsdale led by as many as 32 points (76-44) late in the third quarter. Guard Ike Nwamu added 18 points for Westchester, while forward Georg Wolff contributed eight.

“I knew coming here that this could happen,” said Westchester coach Pat Kahny. “(Ragsdale) is a very talented team. I thought we had to play over our heads to try and keep it close.”

The Tigers used their edge in size and athleticism to play an up-and-down game. Kahny wanted his team to run at the right times, but was disappointed when the Wildcats failed to play good half-court offense.

“We got caught up in the tempo (Ragsdale) was playing and just decided to let it fly,” Kahny said.

Canty and Bello were freshman teammates at Ragsdale two years ago. Then Bello left for Westchester, where he reclassified and played as a freshman again last season.

“I have no clue why Deuce is at Westchester, but I wish we would have kept him,” said Roberts.

Although the outcome had been decided, Bello displayed his talent with 11 points in barely three minutes early in the fourth quarter. He had three dunks during that stretch, including a windmill jam.

“Deuce, he’s something else,” said Canty, a junior who has committed to High Point University. “Me and Deuce are really good friends and we talk a lot, but I really don’t ask him too much about (leaving Ragsdale).”

According to Bello, who already has scholarship offers from several NCAA Division I colleges, the decision to transfer was primarily academics.

“I had to straighten that up,” he said. “And I also thought it would be a better opportunity for me at Westchester. I’m really happy here.”

Westchester plays host to Caldwell tonight, then has homecoming on Friday. Ragsdale plays Southeast Guilford at home on Friday.
Jay Canty was a hell of a pickup for High Point, of course the letter hasn’t been signed yet.

Double Alley-oop: Deuce and his teammate Ike Nwamu. I think Deuce had the dunk. Edit: I thought wrong. Deuce caught the first alley and threw the second to Ike.

Deuce didn’t have the dunk, he was the one who through the 2nd alley oop fto Nwamu for the dunk.

Has Deuce on the break and #1 is the double-oop from another angle.

Lakeem Jackson on here too, as well as some impressive others.

From the Challenge from the past weekend.

Deuce Bello is another guard in the 2011 class. He too is quick, and showed good hands, but his shot looks like it needs some work.

I know it’s late, but from the January article on scout,

“Many Division I schools have noticed Bello’s talents and extended him scholarship offers. “I have offers from Baylor, Wake Forest, and Oklahoma State. I am also hearing a lot from Duke, Miami, N.C. State, Notre Dame, Oregon, Virginia, and USC.””

Doubt we have much of a chance with this guy.
