Quick question..

What was Rodney White’s rank comming out of high school/prep school? I was rambling off all the various top 150 guys we have signed in the last ten or so years to a coworker, and couldn’t remember how highly ranked Hot Rod was. Thanks

CBS sportsline had him rated #225. That was about the only ranking he got, but strangely, he was on EVERY talking head’s (Katz, Bilas, etc) lists leading up to the season. Bilas put us #25 on his preseason rankings just because of Rod. Just proved how b.s. recruiting rankings are.

What!? wow…

He signed back when my dad was still covering the Niners, and I remember asking him one day about what new guys the 49ers were getting. He was raving about Demon and Rodney, just had all kinds of great things to say about them. I was going to guess he was ranked top 50.

He didnt do all those Shoe Camps Chisox, so he didnt get on the little note taker’s lists to gush about. He did play in some invitation tournaments where he abused some people (Ron Slay being one of them). So coaches and insiders knew he was a stud, but the recruiting geeks had no idea how good he was.

Same as when we played rocky top U in the NCAAs.

I remember him being #68.

Tintin

He was the 4th rated fifth year senior.

Was that from the year he had to sit out?

Anyway, interesting name on that list. Can you imagine if he’d actually come to school?
50. Yao Ming 7-5 C Shanghai, China Houston
PS - Butter was #36 on that list. 14 spots above Yao!
36. Kevin Johnson 6-7 PF Milford (Academy) Conn.
Really shows how accurate those things are.

All world, but never quite lived up to the hype.
