Really bad name screw up

OK, so I know there’s a sticky for this, but this one just blows my mind.

Here are the Sweet 16 / Elite 8 tickets - both of which WE are hosting.

Guess we can’t even get our name right on the tickets…Makes me think attendees will believe a satellite of UNC-Chapel hill is running the tourney.

:tumble:

That’s the official name of our school though right? It’s only our athletic department that is “Charlotte”. Seem like the ticket may be technically correct…I don’t know.

I get the posters point that they dont’ like the University of North Carolina-Charlotte. But folks, thats still the schools official name, untill it changes. They’re not going to put Charlotte 49ers just like when it was hosted in Winston-Salem, they don’t say Wake Forest Demon Deacson on the Tickets.

the real question is whether a comma is better than a hyphen

Guys, I think the problem here is that there is no hyphen anymore and there has never been a comma. It is supposed to say:
University of Noth Carolina at Charlotte.

The propper name in this case would be The University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

University of North Carolina, Charotte insinuates that we are a satellite campus of the University of North Carolina, known on here and throughout the technical system as UNC Chapel Hill

Right. As far as I know, the correct ways to refer to us is either “The University of North Carolina at Charlotte”, or the short name, “UNC-Charlotte”.

There you go with the hyphen again.:shades:

Yea, I know. Just how it officially is…

That's the official name of our school though right? It's only our athletic department that is "Charlotte". Seem like the ticket may be technically correct....I don't know.

See? Not even our students know what our name actually is.

What would the ticket have printed on it if the games were played in the Dean E. Smith Center?

Knowing UNC, it would probably say “Heaven”

Since it bothers you so much, can I have the tickets? I’m deeply bothered by such heresy but I think I’ll still be able to use the tickets. It’ll be tough but I think I can do it.

Where’s the smiley thingies on this messageboard?

Its a subliminal ploy by the UNC School System, to get UNCCH out there.

University of North Carolina, Charlotte, Host

The question is: Is the school or the athletic department the hosts of this event?

If it is the athletic department, you should see the c-pick Charlotte logo. Other wise, the correct school name should be printed.

To be honest with you, I’m an alum, and I really don’t know what the correct school name is…hyphen, no hyphen, “at”.

sad, but true fact (IMO): Too many variations in my lifetime to keep up with.

bottom line: Elect Mayor Pat as NC Governor and then start an impeachment campaign if he doesn’t get the name changed to University of Charlotte.

this really is not a big deal… why is this a topic again?
Yea, I know. Just how it officially is…
No, it is not. HP, cue your picture.

University of North Carolina, Charlotte is not the host. The Charlotte 49ers Athletic Department is the host. It should say Charlotte 49ers, Host. Plain and simple.

this really is not a big deal.. why is this a topic again?

If you don’t support the topic, don’t post in it. By doing that, you bring that topic back to the top.

Yes, it is a pretty big deal. University of North Carolina, Charlotte? That’s a rediculous slap in the face. We should pull all support of the regional being here, and let them do it on their own. Absolute bull****.

Also, I don’t believe there is a hyphen in the short name. I believe it is simply UNC Charlotte.

AGGGGGHHHHHHH, our own don’t even know the proper name.

FOR THE ZILLIONTH TIME, THERE IS NO HYPHEN IN UNC ASHEVILLE, THERE IS NO HYPHEN IN UNC GREENSBORO, THERE IS NO HYPHEN IN UNC PEMBROKE, THERE IS NO HYPHEN IN UNC WILMINGTON AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, THERE IS NO HYPHEN IN UNC CHARLOTTE! THIS IS PER THE GENERAL ADMINISTRATION OF THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA SYSTEM (http://www.northcarolina.edu). THE ONLY UNIVERSITY WHERE A HYPHEN IS USED IS THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT CHAPEL HILL, AKA UNC-CHAPEL HILL!

Well, get prepared. Because if it’s like that on the tickets then that probably means any banners in the arena, or any listing on the tv, acknowledging us as the host is probably going to be spelled that way also.
