Record: 10-14 (3-8)

I agree. I had a terrible feeling that that was a last hurrah. I never thought it would sink to this.

We out “State-d” NC State. It was impressive when you think about it. I remember we were so drunk celebrating that we had no emotion left when the plummeting started.

I had to work that night. I was expecting to celebrate the pitcher of beer off. Instead I went home and passed out and woke up still drunk. Worked drunk that night.
On Friday March 18th, 2005, at about 12:40 I was at Piccaso’s on East going bonkers because we were up 15, 7 minutes in to our first round NCAA Tournament game vs. North Carolina State. At about 2:15 I was in my car headed back to work, miserable after that 12 point loss…

Since that blown 15 point lead we have:

Went 154-152 overall
Went 66-89 in league play
Went 3-8 in conference tournaments (Including a year we didn’t even qualify)
Went 1-3 in the NIT (the one win was the NIT version of a play in game vs Ga Southern)
Went 14-23 in the month of March, including losing 13 straight games in March from 08 thru 13- 5 YEARS without a win in March. FIVE!

Needless to say, we have not received an NCAA bid while 200+ other schools have danced during this time.

Since that blown 15 point lead the only constants in Niner basketball have been losing, frustration and Judy Rose.
WOW… I watched that same game, in a Raleigh restaurant/bar with 20-30 other Niner fans… the 1ST HALF WAS AMAZING.

It has been a slow and painful death of 49ers basketball. I can’t even bring myself to care about any college bball. I used to watch how teams on our schedule performed, checked RPI, etc. Now I don’t care. Maybe we will be back one day and it will be amazing again. Sad :frowning:

It is painful to see, but that’s exactly how it is for me.

Aren’t you breaking some forum rule posting a positive comment? I agree!

BTW, it could be worse: http://scores.espn.go.com/ncb/gamecast?gameId=400591499&version=mobile
I’ll give you a pass since you are still new here and not familiar with the Niner way, but Jimmy’s post is oozing with sarcasm.

Niner fans have been saying “next year” since 2005. Every year we have young guys with potential, but they never seem to get any better or play better as a team. I firmly believe we have had the talent several times in the last 10 season to be an NCAA team, but we haven’t had the coaching to be an NCAA team.
Yeah, thanks, I missed it. But I really like woods and Dorn so if the big guy coming in doesn’t leave I am positive for next year. Not dance positive but a big upside. I suppose a big upside isn’t hard though at this point.

Post of the decade.

I remember that day well. I had to be somewhere during the middle of the game, but saw us gain the big lead and had the game taping to watch the rest later. Before I even got home to watch the tape, someone had told me the final score and I was in shock. I couldn’t believe we had blown it after such a good start. That quickly turned to anger because that year was our best chance to make real noise in the tourney and carry that momentum into the A-10. I felt like we had blown our big chance and it was gonna be a while until we had a team like that again and was really upset the rest of the day. I remember my mom at one point telling me something like, “Don’t worry, they’ll be back there again. They make the tournament all the time.”

Then the past ten years happened.

Izundu seems like a real steal and Pistokache seems to be a high IQ player with a college frame already.

Still, I won’t be optimistic until we have a new coaching staff in place. The staff we have now just isn’t going to cut it.

If you were watching us 3 years ago, you’d be extremely disappointed in the player Willie Clayton is. He’s pretty much exactly the same (except WORSE from the FT line if you can believe that).

Henry has gotten better over the years, but not by nearly as much as anyone expected. Williams has been pretty much the same from his soph year to today. Maybe mild improvement.

We had legit reasons to be excited about a lot of these guys because they looked like great young players, but they just never got significantly better. I blame the coaching staff 100% for that.

Great, heartwrencing posts all by true Niner fans.I was working the day of the State game and got the early score at lunchtime…THIS IS OUR TIME I THOUGHT.Couldn’t wait to get outta work and get the final…WHAT THE F***?

Every time I think we’ve hit bottom…well, you all know …

We’ll be back…new coach(prayer follows)…new AD (prayer follows)…Some good young’uns…Halton will rock again.

NO MORE CLASSES GRADUATING WITHOUT ANY DANCE APPEARANCES!

I was at that game against State in Massachusetts. To make matters worse, we were the 7 seed and State was the 10 seed.

Some of the UMASS fans that were attending the game knew all about our team because we were joining their conference the following year. Before the game, they were telling other fans from that area about how strong our program was. Wow, how have times changed since then.

Next basketball season (because this one is over) will be my senior year, my time as a student for the Niners has been fun when it comes to sports. Watching football start and grow has been awesome, I get to say something very few people can say, that they watched the birth of their football team.

However, all I want is one good year of basketball, I want to make the Dance, I want to road trip out to a first round NCAA tournament game with friends, I want to rush the court, I want to experience a packed Halton more than once a season. I’m hoping that we can get a type of coach to help give me or at the very least the students after me that kind of experience.

Growing up a State fan and getting to experience the Sidney Lowe era followed up by switching my allegiances to the Niners and enjoying Major ball, I’m real sick of watching bad basketball.

clt took the day off work to watch that game.

clt went back to ihop at 4pm.

Tomorrow we play a conference game against UTSA. No offense to them intended, but if you had told me when I was attending Charlotte (98-04’) this would be a conference game, I would have told you UTSA must have the best AD in the world to gain membership in a great basketball conference like C-USA. Instead it’s our AD that has proven to be the determining factor in our conference game with UTSA. Rose has lacked a vision and has been reactionary at best to the changing landscape of college sports. If she stays on for any longer who knows what this program will look like, and I for one don’t want to see the school I love suffer any longer under her leadership!

I feel your pain dude and no she hasn’t been right on a lot of things but if we were kicking ass in CUSA we wouldn’t be complaining. There is nothing wrong with CUSA. Is it what we wished, no, but at the root of all this discontent it isn’t the conference that is at issue. It’s the results we have posted in that conference.

there are 202 teams listed above. There are 351 teams in D1.

53 teams in D1 have never been to the tournament. It’s not an impressive list.

Therefore, 96 teams that have been to the tournament at some point in their history are currently on a drought as long or longer than us.
