Wow. Thanks for the research. That’s really bad. Didn’t realize how bad.

Someone seems to have a lot of extra time on their hands. (no, I am not complaining)

UCF played in the game that immediately followed ours on March 18, 2005 and almost knocked off UCONN. I was so stunned after our loss that I just sat in my seat in shock and did not even realize UCF was possibly on the verge of pulling off a big upset.

Then I went back to the hotel and drank beer with the pep band and things seemed better. Then I hit the slopes of southern Vermont the next day and things improved even more. After all, there was always NEXT YEAR and we were entering a new conference and things were bound to get better. After all, we were an up and coming basketball program that should have gone to the Big East.
On Friday March 18th, 2005, at about 12:40 I was at Piccaso’s on East going bonkers because we were up 15, 7 minutes in to our first round NCAA Tournament game vs. North Carolina State. At about 2:15 I was in my car headed back to work, miserable after that 12 point loss…

Since that blown 15 point lead we have:

Went 154-152 overall
Went 66-89 in league play
Went 3-8 in conference tournaments (Including a year we didn’t even qualify)
Went 1-3 in the NIT (the one win was the NIT version of a play in game vs Ga Southern)
Went 14-23 in the month of March, including losing 13 straight games in March from 08 thru 13- 5 YEARS without a win in March. FIVE!

Needless to say, we have not received an NCAA bid while 200+ other schools have danced during this time.

Since that blown 15 point lead the only constants in Niner basketball have been losing, frustration and Judy Rose.
I think this may be the definition of ‘sucks’…
Next basketball season (because this one is over) will be my senior year, my time as a student for the Niners has been fun when it comes to sports. Watching football start and grow has been awesome, I get to say something very few people can say, that they watched the birth of their football team.

However, all I want is one good year of basketball, I want to make the Dance, I want to road trip out to a first round NCAA tournament game with friends, I want to rush the court, I want to experience a packed Halton more than once a season. I’m hoping that we can get a type of coach to help give me or at the very least the students after me that kind of experience.

Growing up a State fan and getting to experience the Sidney Lowe era followed up by switching my allegiances to the Niners and enjoying Major ball, I’m real sick of watching bad basketball.
I wish it for you too dude…I really do!

Our neighbors to the south from the SEC, South Carolina, had their last tournament appearance in 2004.

^ was very helpful.

It’s actually worse than that. SC is a good example of how many of the teams that have similar or worse droughts have at least had some football success (ie a bowl appearance of FCS playoff spot).

Honestly outside of men’s soccer and men’s baseball’s tour of the new england’s glorified high school squads 3-7 years ago, this really has been a TERRIBLE decade of sports.

I don’t disagree but did want to add Golf as one of our better sports this decade with a top 3 finish.

Ah yes, the elitist Charlotte fan attitude. I’ve never quite understood the basis for this way of thinking.

I’d say these are pretty comparable histories wouldn’t you?

Granted, South Carolina has had a program for much longer than we have, but in the modern era both programs have pretty much experienced the same amount of below average success when spread out over four and a half decades.

SteuA, you make me dream about what we could be if we had SC’s conference opponents and budget. If they wanted to they could spend an unlimited amount of money on their basketball program. In this context it highlights just how little they have done with their opportunites.

I think we actually started going downhill that year when we lost last four or five regular season games because Lutz wanted the Tenn job. We have not been the same since.

Same year.

Yep.

We’re bad, everybody knows it and we need to change coaching staffs- got it. Thanks

;D ;D ;D :))

We lost our last 4 games that year, but only 2 of those were in the regular season. We lost the last two regular season games, then lost in the conference tourney, and then lost that heartbreaker to State in the 1st round of the NCAA Tourney, making us 0-4 in the month of March.

All of this happened after being in the bubble talk a couple of weeks earlier.
