Nice read about the wonderful world of recruiting today and where it’s headed:

I would expect the NCAA to do something about this in the near future…if the NCAA was so full of ****. I cant see how they could allow something like this to go on. College basketball seems to be rushing through the door to give itself a black eye.

And does it shock anyone that Tim Floyds name is attached to this.

I read that article this morning and I had to stop half way through bc they started talking about some recruiting services ranking 4th graders. This is sickening. I could be mistaken, but I thought there was an NCAA rule that prohibited College Coaches to have verbal communications with a player until they are a junior in high school. Even if this is going on by the “big” schools, I hope our assistants do not stoop this low.

From Billie Gillespie about “being first” to recruit a kid…

[QUOTE"But I think the positives outweigh the negatives. So many guys are playing so much basketball so much earlier, against great competition. There are guys playing 365 days a year against great competition." [/QUOTE]

Ummm… if he cannot recognize the fact that there are HUGE dipsarities in the physical and athletic development of kids in the 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th grade, then he is sadly mistaken. He is also giving these kids and their families false hope. There is no way they are playing against “great competition”… are you telling me that all the kids running around in 6th grade are great competition? Come on Billy, wake up and smell the bluegrass!

IMO, the NCAA NEEDS to step in and stop this s&%*!

The whole problem with this is non of it is binding, as we’ve seen with certain recruits (MB), saying your going to a school doesn’t mean crap if you don’t sign something, they should change it so you can sign a LOI earlier so these teams are screwed if a kid doesn’t pan out and then maybe they’ll learn.

Could someone help me out some. I have a vague memory of us recruiting a middle schooler from charlotte. I think we offered a skolly, but i’ve never heard of the kid making it here. Seems like he was Byron Dinkins nephew or cousin, something like that. Or maybe another player. Vague memory is just that.

I think you’re talking about his nephew K.C Rivers at Clemson.

Thanks Niner89. That sounds right because I remember him using initials for first name. Went to Clemson, huh. It’s sad that to see good charlotte high schoolers go down there and lose 12 conference games a year. And forced to beat 10 USC-Aikens to satisfy their loyal, high-paying donors.
