Iâve been a season ticket holder for 4+ years and an ironic pattern appears to exist. It doesnât seem to matter who the officials are, they always appear to âdisrespectâ Bobby Lutz.
Originally posted by switchfoot@Dec 4 2004, 11:09 PM I normally don't point to refs in games. However, I will in this case because of some of the calls that I felt were just out there. The refs definently didn't call this game, in my opinion, even closely fair. Couldn't agree more, swiftfoot. EJ got hacked going for a dunk and didn't even get a look. What was that jump ball when EJ got that rebound? The 'Bama players didn't even have their hands on the ball. That over-the-back that they had (on offense) and they call (I think, Eddie) for?? Horrible calls. That ref was waiting for a reason to T Coach Lutz up and practically dared Lutz to say something else so he could T him up again.

Total Fouls - Alabama 27, Charlotte 20
Yes, the jump ball call on EJ was atrocious. The T on Bobby: I could see as being called or not called. The refs did not lose us this game. Missing 10 free throws in the last 20 minutes of the game lost us the game.
found this on the web Gerald Boudreaux 58 9 .865 kentuckys record with him has to be a sec ref.
Whatâs UKâs record with anybody as a ref? The composite UK record for all the refâs listed is .772. Boudreaux was by far the best official out there. Thibodeaux was terrible, and Crawford was somewhere inbetween. Crawford missed a foul call late in the game, and Bobby said that he told him, âHey, I missed it.â It happens. Officials are human just like the rest of us. We make the plays, we win. Case closed.
you are insane if you think curts was warrented, maybe he hung on the rim but he went at the rim extremely fast and hard, so yes he swung, if he didnt hold he would fall on the back of his head. players do it all the time and it isnt called. screw the refs.
Itâs not the refs fault that Curt went at the rim fast and hard. The rule book says that if you hang and pull up, then itâs a âT,â plain and simple.

sorry for double postwww.hpe.com/2000/02/07/sports/207sports5.html+Gerald+Boudreaux+ref&hl=en]idiot ref
âHe was talking to the ref,â Baxter said of Thornton. âHe said it was a bad call or whatever ⌠probably not in those words. The ref just teed him up, and it changed the complexion of the game.â
âprobably not in those words.â
Thatâs why Thornton got a âTâ
Originally posted by ninerID@Dec 4 2004, 11:09 PM you are insane if you think curts was warrented, No, actually, I just have an understanding of the rulebook and what it says warrants a technical foul as far as dunking goes. He grabbed the rim and pulled his body upwards and he didn't exactly do it in a subtle manner. Emotion got the best of him on that play and the ref made the right call. I'm not thrilled about it and I think the refs blew a ton of calls in this game but that wasn't one of them.
We shot 38 free throws tonight. A lot of misses on front end of one and ones.
The refs could have not been that against us.
The only 2 bad calls I saw was the Drayton mugging. His shirt was pulled almost
off of him and he could not outlet because of all the fouling. The other was the Winston push off for half his points but mainly the one that he used to send it to the first overtime.

Do you mean Drayton instead of Iti?
what about when the ball rolled off bama and hit the ref in the legs keeping it inbounds.

Withers deserved the tech.
Bobby deserved his tech.
The Drayton âmystery jump ballâ was a result of Lutz and his constant bitching. The same official that Tâed him up called that jump ball.

QUOTE (49erpi @ Dec 5 2004, 03:26 AM)
The âDrayton mystery jump ballâ was the most costly⌠we had a 2 point lead and EJ should have been at the line with a chance to make it 4 with about 30 seconds left. Instead Alabama got the ball back and tied the game.
Originally posted by jcl49er@Dec 4 2004, 11:55 PM Refs were horrible but the refs didn't miss all those free throws, No, but the refs made the calls that put Plavich on the line. It must have been a conspiricy.
If the three Bama players that mugged EJ for the jump ball had been wearing police uniforms instead of basketball uniforms, it would have resembled the Rodney King video.
Of course we even âcheatedâ sending Withers to the line to shoot free throws for Iti and it still didnât help. Clang Clang. Iti rebounds & gets fouled. Clang Clang.
One of their assistant coaches was going nuts when Withers got to the line to shoot for Iti. Of course, he obviously hasnât paid much attention to the scouting report on us. We have been plagued by crappy free throw shooting for the past 10 years with a few exceptions.
Bottom line: Yes itâs starting to sound repetitious and rightly so but if we hit our free throws we win the game regardless of the coaching decisions, shot selection, technical fouls, officiating, etc etc etc.
The tech on Withers was the right call, but it shouldnât have been called. Only reason it was called was that the refs were already angry at our team. Curt shouldnât have done it, but usually that call will not be made.
The refs should not have made a difference, though. We are a bad FT shooting team, we know it, they know it. We got their best players in foul trouble and Winston had 4 fouls for the longest time. Why didnât Bobby run plays to get him fouled out? We knew they would foul, we just didnât attack the right players. Lutz needs to draw up plans that attack the teams that are going to attack our weakness. If they foul, get their players out of the game. It worked with 2 of their better players, but he seemed to forget that Winston had 4 fouls. If we had gotten rid of him earlier, we would have won also.
The refs should never âdecideâ a game, but they did last night with their calls.
It was the worse referreed game we have been a victim of since the Illinois NCAA game in 2001. I know what the box score says in terms of fouls, but they had many more that went uncalled in the 3 overtimes. Kennedy Winston had at least 4 fouls that were obvious that werenât called, all occurring when he already had 4 fouls. The refs swallowed their whistles. He shoved Plavich down twice, one of them to give himself an open 3 (which he made), he gave Eddie a forearm shiver that sent him to the floor, but my favorite was when he went over Curtisâ back to get an offensive rebound, then got the putback and a whistle on Curtis. The mugging of EJ after that rebound was the worst call Iâve seen in a long time. They were trying to foul him, and were, and the stupid ref calls walking. WTF? :cuss: :ticked: Those are just the ones I remember.
Yes we missed some free throws, but we played pretty good defense against them only to have the refs keep giving them extra chances that they shouldnât have had.
Itâs tough enough to beat a good team when the game is called fairly, but itâs hard to overcome both the efforts of Alabama and the refs.

I hate blaming the refs when we make tons of mistakes ourselves, but I have to reluctantly agree with you on all of that.
The refs didnât beat us last night butâŚ
The jump ball on Draytonâs rebound was awful. He had 3 Alabama players all over him and it was a jump ball?
The T on Withers for hanging on the rimâŚcanât fault CW for that one. It was an emotional game and he was excited. It didnât seem flagrant but he probably added too much emphasis.
The problem I have is that Bobbyâs T came at a terrible time. We were up 5-6 points, in what was going to be a tight finish, and they already were going to the line to shoot 2 for the foul. Giving them 2 more was terrible. That actually gave them a 4 point play. With our poor FT shooting, we need every advantange we can get. Turns out that 1 point would have tied, and 2 would have won. Iâm not saying that was the only reason we lost. But it didnât help.
Overall, the statement in the article by Tom Sorenson sums it all upâŚ
What the 49ers have is another entertaining, smart and talented group that, at least on Saturday, is not quite good enough to win.
Been a 49er fan since stepping on campus in 92, and this seems to be a repeat of the last 12 years. Oh well. The only thing that makes me feel better is that we have many more games to play.
Originally posted by LutzFan@Dec 4 2004, 10:58 PM That tech they called on Bobby was ridiculous. That was fine, I'm sure Bobby dropped the magic word. The Withers T was ridiculous, he hung on to keep from falling on his ass.
The refs didnât lose us the game, poor shot selection late and free throws lost us the game, donât take the easy excuse, our team this year canât close out a game, the blame falls on the players and coaches.
I remember right after the T, Leemire and BP both fired up bad 3s early in the shot clock. Thatâs not the way to keep your team in the game. Discipline has always been a problem with Bobby.
