Refs

Yeah, comparing Lutz to Coach K is a bit of a stretch in any context. I like Bobby but that’s pushing it.

Picking his moments, as MK suggested, would be a much better approach but I doubt Bobby is going to instantly suppress his emotions…not that easy.

All this pissing and moaning here about the refs has merit. However, listen up: EVEN WITH ALL THE CRAPPY CALLS THEY MADE, THIS CREW STILL GAVE US 16 MORE CHANCES TO SCORE ONE POINT THAN THEY GAVE BAMA. That’s the bottom line. We lost because we can’t make a shot that any 10 year old can learn to make 70%+ of the time. UN-FREAKIN’-BELIEVIBLE!!!

Originally posted by pickman@Dec 6 2004, 11:00 AM i have been a high school ref for over 10 years. the jump ball call was the worst i have ever seen. those guys get big money to make the right calls at crunch time, and he flat out blew it. imo, it was so bad one would have to question his motive. any ref with any experience at all would know it was a foul situation if they missed and to reward the fouling team with possession of the ball is unimaginable and the tape should be sent to the supervisor. the overback and one call is not far behind. bobby and curt got to be smarter than that. we had other chances but the ref most likely changed the outcome of the game with that call.

bobby has no class on the sidelines, he is a little fired up spit ball. i can see why officials wouldn’t like him. some officials are very arrogant and think they are bigger than the game(valentine, cloughtery, etc) but they carry the whistles.

Yes I would question his motive to the point that he has a strong interest in the outcome.
Either that or he is not cabable of being an official either wway he should be fired, or probation or have to go back to ref school.

The refs are not doing us a favor blowing the obvious whistles.
Look at our team. OF COURSE we’re going to go to the line more than 90% of our opponents (mark my words). It’s the no-calls and the neutral calls (like jump balls) that kill you when the refs are no longer on your side.

I think everybody is in agreement that they missed the Drayton jump ball. But outside of that, I don’t think the officials were terrible. Remember, they had 3 guys foul out. One call I wasn’t sure about and I haven’t seen anybody else mention was the goaltending call on Iti. From where I was sitting it didn’t look like the shot was going to make it to the goal.

I guess I am alone on this but I like Lutz emotions. He doesn’t get many technicals. We aren’t dealing with a Gary Williams here now or a Bobby Knight. I personally didn’t think the technical was fair. I wasn’t as close to the court as Powerbait and Co. but it seemed to be one ref making all these terrible calls.

And should have had 4 before the end of the 1st overtime.

Every coach wants to have the scoreboard even with fouls, but you can’t look at it like that. When we play teams like Cincy, Louisville, and other aggressive and rough teams, we should ALWAYS be well ahead in the foul count. Just because the fouls aren’t even doesn’t necessarily mean the officials are calling it unfairly. In the case of Saturday night’s game though, we were BEHIND in fouls by a margin we should have been ahead in. Now that’s bad. Sure we benefitted from some no calls, but not nearly as much as Alabama did.

we win the game for sure if not for the jump ball call, Ej makes his freethrows, the game was stolen and the ref should have to be accountable. He wanted bama to win and took over that overtime.
