Retired Jersey question

With Eddie Basden’s jersey retirement happening this week, I was curious as to what the criteria is for retiring a player’s jersey at UNCC.

I know at some of the big name schools in Div 1, there are requirements such as a player must graduate and also be recognized at the national level (such as be named National Player of the Year or Defensive Player of the Year, set an NCAA record, or be named as an All-American).

Eddie was a heck of a player (named C-USA Player of the Year in 2005, and Defensive Player of the Year in 2004 and 2005. In his senior season he was also named National Defensive Player of the Year by many college basketball analysts.)

I was just curious if it’s the same criteria that goes into retiring a player’s number here at Charlotte.

I could be wrong but I believe that in Eddies case it was because he was Conference POY. I think that may be a prerequisite for all jersey retirees here at Charlotte. but i could be wrong.
