What is the deal with this guy? Seems to me that we could use an incoming post player. Blakely is iffy at best going forward since he can’t hardly earn any minutes this year with the lack of depth we have. I know we have Sullivan coming in, but we could use a Freshman big man in this class.

www.verbalcommits.com/players/rokas-gustys[/quote]We have no scholarships left. I believe the offer was prior to Dorn committing and signing.
Yup, very concerning not having a true big post man in next years class.
We lose zero bigs from this year, and add a transfer. Heck, we could possibly redshirt Blakely then. Not saying we would but we could. Get a big man the following year and we’re good. Right now we don’t have a scholarship to hand out.
Doesn’t sound like we are actively after Gustys, which makes sense b/c we have 5 bigs next year adding Sullivan.
I understand we don’t have a schollie to offer a big next year but whomever thinks we are “good” with our bigs we have next year have more faith than me. And I say that because I think we should have gotten a possible center or legit sized PF next year and either red shirt them or have them in the system so they can contribute when Clayton and Thorne are gone or even when they are seniors. I’m thinking more about the future so we aren’t depending on a freshman or Sophmore to always carry the weight down low. Major is new so when his first recruited big guys Clayton and Thorne are juniors, I want freshman coming in. Then repeat the process to always have a stocked roster. Clayton, Thorne and Sullivan all leave at the same time in 2.5 years, then we have Bryan and blakely as our bigs? We better get a transfer or awesome freshman that can contribute right away.
Who are our 5 bigs? I’m assuming you are adding Blakely into that number? Once again you have more faith than me. Hopefully he proves me wrong but what I’ve seen from his freshman year is very questionable schollie player. So was Thorne though but he has legit center size so I’ll hope for the best.
Anyways…
Is Blakely really a “big”? He has decent size, but seems to play more like a sf. A number of posters have mentioned that he might play this position. I agree that you need to have some big guys coming in soon to to have as backups and be ready once others move on (at least in a stable program you need that). I’d add that post players often are where we need to take “projects”, and we don’t want to have to depend on these types of players early in their career.
With what we’ve seen out of Blakely, I’d like to think we could RS him next year. Having Thorne, Clayton, Sullivan and Bryan should suffice in the post. We’re getting by with basically 3 right now.
Has anybody noticed Blakely's deft shooting touch from just inside the 3 pt line? Last several warmups it caught my attention and the guy can fill it up. It's a little unorthodox and starts his motion too low but someone his size who can shoot is a rarity, especially on our team. I know, I know he seems a little lost in the brief minutes he's gotten but I swear there's potential there. RS him and give him time to develop . He may be a diamond in the rough.
I’d love to get Blakley get 20 minutes tonight.
It’s mandatory that we get this guy. As Ruckus 42 says:
