RTP Area Niners

A lot of talk? i think I’m the only one that has said that. And Anborn just there.

But, chains aren’t likely to be a good place for us to go. It would need to be a bar that would be welcoming. Any bar would take our money, not any bar would go out of their way for us.

Call Chip Rossi at 704-687-7790

I know theres a Flying Saucer in Raleigh, if they are at all as accomodating as the one on 29 that may be a good place to go. Also, maybe somewhere like Champs at South Point if we can get them to show the games?

Champps sucks, they took 10 minutes to get a Niner game on once.

Flying Saucer would be okay. I know there are a ton on places in Brier creek, and it is pretty central to everyone so I was hoping somewhere there.

Thanks for the # Frekdog, I will probably call on Monday morning.

Oh ok, I’ve never tried to watch a Niner game around here, I was still unemployed and going back for games at the end of last season. Fact is, anywhere in this area we’ll need to have an idea of how many people are coming and make sure the place we go carrys the Niners game ahead of time. As far as Brier’s Creek goes, maybe Carolina Ale House? I don’t venture that way often…

Yes a lot of talk. And no you arent the only one who has said it. I’ve been hearing it on the boards for years. Hell I’ve probably said it myself at one point.

My point is, outside of a Niner-run place like pics that will play the fight song and put the game on every TV, all other bars are neither ā€œniner-freindlyā€ nor niner-unfreindly. Show up with a bunch of fans and they will put the game on enough TVs for your crowd.

yeah, that works in theory. I’ve been to bars here a few times with some of my friends. We had a hard time getting games on TV. If there is an ACC game on, even if no one is watching it, it is tough to get a TV.

Champps, I went with 6 people last year to watch a game on masn. Missed almost the entire first half because they kept telling me they would put it on soon.

Went to a place called bailey’s in Chapel hill. Called ahead, went with my girlfriend. They promised to have the game on for us. Missed almost the entire game. That was an A-10 tourney game 2 years ago.

I agree, most bars will be accomodating, but I wouldn’t say that they are all that way. I want to go to a bar where if I’m with 6 paying customers, we can get the game on that we want.

Nikki has a screen name on here too, she’s highly offended you didn’t add her.

There is an Alumni Association event at the NC Museum of Art November 6, it would probably be a good place to get the names of RTP area Niners:

I’ve not found a Niner-friendly bar around here yet, but I haven’t looked too much either. I think the idea of calling ahead (reserving tables if possible) and showing up in numbers is the best way to get it done. The Ale House at Brier Creek is pretty large, it’s probably as good of a place as any to try to start it. Or the Wild Wing place right next door.

Blinco’s on Glenwood Avenue (between Brier Creek and Crab Tree Mall) has been good about putting on games in the past. I have gone with my wife, just the two of us and they have put on the game for us…with a bigger group, 12+ or so they actually have 2 private rooms, I can check into what is required to reserve a room.
Another possible option is a new bar, that is going to be at 540 and leesville road, about 2 miles from brier creek, it will be the Leesville Draft House, part of the local draft house chain…I could see if they would be willing to be the local home of the niners if there were enough interest.,[quote=CMack124;348260]

I’ll be at my parent’s place in Durham for Thanksgiving. I wouldn’t mind meeting up with some Niners to watch one of the Anaheim Tourney games if you guys find a good spot.

not much to add here.

but I keep misreading the thread title as ā€œRIP Area Ninersā€ and then I think someone died.

I should recognize the RTP letters…my Dad started working for a business at RTP when that whole area was in its infancy…late 1960’s.

Also I still have kin in the Raleigh area. Although the only times I seem to visit anymore is for Hurricanes hockey games.

This is a good list, are there others that could be added or invited to the Museum of Art reception on 11/6?

The people I know that live in this area:
ApexNiner
Chasmo101
Cmack124
deez
walaboom
ninernirvana
200049er
87niner
charlottefan
memory2002
action49er
Anborn

I’m sure there are more, let me know.

Let us know when you’re in the area. Who knows, maybe we’ll have niner outings to Hurricane games?

There is just a great niner community in Charlotte that is non existent here. There are enough niners here that we should have some sort of community.

Sometimes they are last minute decisions, but I’ll keep it in mind.

RBC Center is a special place to me - Game 7 of the '06 Finals was one of the greatest spectator sports moments of my life.

Who is going to the first 2 games this season?

Let me know. I am always up for carpooling, and I have a lot of room!

Any of you go to the Alumni Event in Raleigh this past week? How was it??

I went and had a great time, over 90 attended with a mix of alums and prospective students. I met NinerNirvana there, great to put a face with a Nick.

As a follow-up to a place to meet for games, i have looked into several in the area and my recomendation is Blinco’s (www.blincos.com) on Glenwood Avenue. It’s about 3 miles from the Briercreek area. The manager was very excited about the opportunity to host Niner events. They have 2 private rooms that can be reserved as well. What’s really nice is that the small one only holds around 10 people, so a small group can still have a nice venue to watch a game. The larger room is good for just over 20.

I think the Alumni Association is working on an official event (a basketball viewing party), more details to come.

If there is interest in watching the App State game I will be glad to contact the manager at Blinco’s to see if the small room is available. My wife and I will be there so we only need 6-8 more people.

What date is the App state game?

If I don’t have to work, I would be interested.

Are you planning on going to the games next weekend?

App game is Wednesday the 19th. Count me in for the Blincos viewing, plus the wife.

had to work late all last week so i couldn’t make the event at the art museum. i’ld be up for viewing games at blincos.
