RTP Area Niners

I talked to Chasmo yesterday about the possibility of an alumni chapter in this area.

I know there are quite a few people who post here that live here, but I was hoping we could have a thread to sort of come together. Even if we don’t have an official school sponsored organization, we could arrange to meet for basketball games, to drive to Charlotte for games together, etc.

The people I know that live in this area:
ApexNiner
Chasmo101
Cmack124
deez
walaboom
ninernirvana
200049er
87niner
charlottefan
memory2002
action49er
Anborn

I’m sure there are more, let me know.

I live in Apex. There is a good core group that is only occasionally active. My guess is that only a few of those follow NN.N. Alumni Director Chip Rossi made attempts to get the Triangle Chapter active again about year ago. There will be an alumni reception with Chancellor Dubois in November (Raleigh). If you have any questions about the chapter, just let me know.

I live in the RTP area. I don’t post on NNN very often, but I read it daily. I graduated in 2000. Since moving to RTP area I have grown to hate NC State and its fans with a passion. I guess working with them everyday will have that effect on you. :shades:

Live in North Raleigh. Count me in.

I’m hoping we can make it something more regular. Viewing parties for the games, maybe a “Niner Bar”? I figure a place like Brier Creek would be a good meeting place for everyone from Chapel Hill to East Raleigh, kind of a central location.

It may just be an idea that fizzles and dies, but I hope that we can get a real chapter going. Carpools to basketball games would be great, and just getting the word out about niner things to more people is important. Who knows, maybe we can convert some of these locals to the real deal.

It’s hard to believe there isn’t already an alumni chapter in the RTP area.

Officially, there has been a Triangle chapter for more than 25 years. Its just that the chapter has varied in the amount of activity over those years.

Ok, that makes me feel better. So this would be just a kick in the pants to get the chapter active again. Hopefully football will help. I’ve thought about inquiring about a chapter in the central VA region. I’m not sure how many alumni are in my area though.

You can add me to the list.

I asked the alumni office about it and was told there is no Chapter in this area. That was just my experience. If you have someone I can talk to about it to get it more active, please let me know.

Send me a PM if you’d like. Tell me who I need to call.

i don’t post on here much but read it regularly. i live in cary. add me to the list.

Awesome, thanks!

I will do whatever I have to do to help out.

Does anyone have any suggestions for “niner friendly” bars in the area?

My wife and I live near Cameron Village here in Raleigh. We are both 49er grads.

All the so-called chapters had pretty much folded over the last few years. That is one thing the Alumni office is trying to restart. If you have a solid core group that will work together, the staff will take the proposal of a chapter to the alumni board of governors for approval.

I mean, if it doesn’t get that far, it is fine with me. I just want more niners to watch games with/drive to Charlotte for games, etc.

If it evolves into an alumni chapter with events before local Niner games, that would be even better.

I completely agree with your outlook. It would be nice just to have some folks to watch games with and talk to about the university. I’m really excited you brought this up Powerbait.

Why is this? Did it have to do with our A-10 move? Or a switch in AA leaders? The crowd last night was really good, I was happy to see that many niner alumns and I know more in the triad that didn’t attend.

i live near the art museum and rex hospital. in for viewing any/all games in a green friendly atmosphere. c/o 2001.

You know, I hear a lot of talk about wanting to find a “niner-friendly or green-friendly” bar, and that doesnt make much sense to me. ANY bar is going to be Niner-friendly if enough of you show up. Bars/restaurants want to make money. If more than a handful of you go in there to watch a game, they will get it on whatever TVs you want.
