And yes, I’m posting it from brooklynvegan (music blog), because. Reasons.

I have probably heard about 1/3rd of these songs. So much for the snob factor this year.

drake #1? :))

80% of those bands are fake… I’m sure of it

Chvrches are dope if you like synths.

Im not a synths junkie, but yeah, chvrches are charming. They did a live set on satellite radio recently that hooked me.

A couple that I would also recommend from that list:

Pitchfork’s Top 100 Tracks of 2013

97. Foxygen - “No Destruction” - these guys are douches but this song owns.
90. Yo La Tengo - "Ohm"
87. The National - "Pink Rabbits"
84. Chvrches - "Recover"
83. My Bloody Valentine - “New You” - A "radio friendly MBV song?? With a delicioussly soft Belinda Butcher vocal? Yes!"
77. Julia Holter - “Hello Stranger” - some of her songs sound cool, but her vocal style is so offputting - forced eclectic
70. Neko Case - “Man” - Neko is so cool. Not sure what her hangup about frat boys is. Possible trauma in college?
68. Kurt Vile - “Goldtone” - not gonna - lie I just wanna see kurt vile on the list
53. Deerhunter - “Monomania” - not gonna lie - I just wanna see deerhunter on the list.
51. Arcade Fire - "Afterlife"
50. Phosphorescent - “Song for Zula” - this is fantastic.
44. Parquet Courts - “Stoned and Starving” - this is an absolutely stupid stoner garage song but I kinda like it
36. Rhye - “Open” - actually, no, “The Fall” is much better.
27. Chvrches - "The Mother We Share"
26. My Bloody Valentine - “Only Tomorrow” - maybe the definitive MBV song of all time?
8. Daft Punk - “Get Lucky” [ft. Pharrell]
4. Arcade Fire - “Reflektor”

BTW - this week is the 20th anniversary reissue for Nirvana’s “In Utero”. I am about this close to buying it. Underrated record.

Swearin’ is really good, as is waxahatchee, but really RIP P.S. Eliot.

What are these letters and symbols you are typing??? Why cant bands these days have actual names and not look like they were typed on the tweeter?

I can understand Waxahatchee, but really Swearin’ and P.S. Eliot are too hard for you to read? Our English department is worse than I thought.

I’ve bought a shit ton of music this year, but looking back on it I dont know that much of it was from 2013. My favorites from the year are probably:

Arctic Monkeys - AM
Vampire Weekend- whatever its name was, i can’t remember a the moment
Portugal the Man- Evil Friends

My favorite song hands down this year was Har Mar Superstar’s “Lady You Shot Me”. Such a fun song.

Reading through that pitchfork list makes me think that Pitchfork is indie musics own worst enemy. Most of that list is garbage and just cements every stereotype people have of indie music

I think I’ve only heard 8 songs on that list.

clt asks “where is Miley?”

Best of 2013? Haha, there hasn’t been a best of since the 1980’s music ended. Modern music is for losers. >:D

What is the appeal of Daft Punk? Sounds like techno and didn’t Eminem tell Moby techno was dead, no one listens to techno!

Never been a fan of Portugal the Man, but I really like the other two. Both surprises, I had given up on both bands but they are both really great albums. Glad to see Vampire Weekend getting a bunch of year-end list love.

This is always an interesting aggregation of lists:

I don’t really get the Yeezus love, but whatever. Surprised to see Queens of the Stone Age so high, I must have missed something on that one.
