Now that it’s obvious Fancher is terrible, and the entire basketball program is toxic, I’m listing my top 5 guys who I would love to see considered with PROVEN success and be huge proven upgrades:
Pat Kelsey - has Winthrop in 1st again. 6 straight wins. Taken them from worst to first, an NCAA and done helluva restoration job. Loves fan engagement.
Wes Miller - has UNCG rolling. First couple years struggled, but won 25 last year and going to win 25 agsin. Just 35 yrs old. Gets the marketing thing, check out UNCG athletics YouTube vids. With our UNC head jock sniffer in charge chancellor, this guy has to be on radar. Former Heel.
Earl Grant - my favorite. No nonsense guy. 41 yrs old. Another turnaround expert. Went from 9 wins to 25 last year and on Pace to win 25 again this year.
Bobby Lutz -
Levelle Moton - shoulda hired him over Price. Done well at NC Central. Very alpha male which might rift with Dubois and his 17 sport mentality.
Nick McDevitt - done well at UNCA. Taken them to NCAA. Does be understand hype or branding?
Tom Crean - seriously doubt he has 1 shred of interest.

Forbes is my #1 choice too. I think he and Crean are the only proven commodities that would swing the momentum quickly. Scheyer and Capel would be okay too. The others are varying levels of Interesting, though I am nowhere near as high on Kelsey as some of you are.
Whoever the next coach is, ideally I think being a coach who can relate to fans and them excited is going to be so key. A coach who can reach out and truly connect with the student body to get students to the games will be critical.
However, there is the age old saying…win and they will come and it’s true. Win and the students will come whether youre the greatest guy in the world or a total dick.
I for one am not even going to get hung up on certain names and who I want it to be. Going to take a coach who is looking for a complete rebuild at this point.

I think you’d have to give that title to Lee rose. He took a brand new nobody program and arguably had the best team in the country.
Jeff Mullins took a dumpster fire and turned it into a winner that was later handed off to Bobby. If Bobby gets a return chance, he will have to do what Jeff did in the 80s.

This team, similar to Odom, is not an indication of Fanchers ability. The dude won at App, that’s a biblical miracle. I’m not saying he is Wooden, but he isn’t this bad.
This team, suffers more than a talent deficiency. It’s broken mentally. It isn’t overly talented, but it is a better team than what we are seeing. To find success you need talent, coaching and desire. This team is missing serious parts of all three.
As for the replacement. As much as I like Bobby we need to end that. Barring a HUGE shift from Phil it isn’t happening. Remember Bobby got fired mostly for who he is not for his on the coach product.
I’d like to see someone that has has won something at a lower level/school OR someone who has been AHC at a P5 school. What I don’t want is a down thebench Alan Major or a “name guy” Mark Price.
In other words someone with Bobby’s resume before we knew who he was.

Lee was a great coach, but the team he inherited from Bill Foster was not a “nobody team”. Foster’s '74-75 team lost only 3 games and would have gone dancing if they had a field of 64 back then.
Rose’s trademark was taking over teams already loaded with talent and making them better.

Fancher is not terrible. I actually think he is a decent coach and cares about his players. However, he surely is at least partly responsible for the lack of needed talent to compete in CUSA. Simovic was brought in to recruit Euro players, but we may never see the fruits of his labor. Give Fancher a local recruiter and let Simovic hit the Euro scene and who know what can happen.
