So, are you going to explain the clown thing or not? As great as it is to fruitlessly debate about whose college is better, the real issue here is why Winthrop is being represented on this board by a clown cryptically named Shakeshoes.
So I was looking at getting my PhD, but I can’t seem to find anything on the Winthrop site. Any help Shakeshoes? Just figured I’d look into it since you claim Winthrop to be the outstanding academic institution…
You guys do realize Winthrop has higher undergraduate admissions standards right
This doesn’t surprise me considering the immaturity displayed on here. Your grad business program is pretty good though, thankfully.
I think we’re doing just fine. A piece of paper that reads “The University of North Carolina at Charlotte” carries more clout than one that reads “Winthrop University.” You know that or you wouldn’t be attending UNCC for your master’s.

Additionally, it’s not to hard to set stricter standards when you only admit 6,500 students… Try doing that 22,000 students and still be considered to “serve the general region’s educational needs.”
Even regardless of this, a degree from Charlotte still carries more weight. We are a true, all-encompassing university.

Winthrop:

Average high school GPA 3.64
Test scores SAT verbal scores over 500 70%, SAT math scores over 500 71%, ACT scores over 18 97%, SAT verbal scores over 600 24%, SAT math scores over 600 25%, ACT scores over 24 34%, SAT verbal scores over 700 3%, SAT math scores over 700 2%, ACT scores over 30 2%
Charlotte:
High School Grade Point Average - 4.0 Scale - Middle 50% Range
3.4 to 4.0
Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) - Middle 50% Range

(all I could find)
not much difference- plus Winthrop only offers 69 under grad degrees and masters in useless programs such as:
Interior Design (FIDER)
Dietetics (DIETI)
Theater (THEA)
Dance (DANCE)
Teacher Education (TED)
Journalism and Mass Communications (JOUR)
Art and Design (ART)
Music (MUS
while UNCC comprises seven professional colleges and currently offers 14 doctoral programs, 59 master’s degree programs and 83 programs leading to bachelor’s degrees. Enrollment exceeds more than 20,000 students. I’d list them but…
Actually, PhD programs are up to 17 now. They are also adding PhD in Nanotechnology (approved and to begin this year), so I don’t think that’s included.

You guys do realize Winthrop has higher undergraduate admissions standards right :)

This from a guy who makes his living hanging out with 15 other guys in an old Volkswagon?

Like being able to play “Back In Black” while operating the Himalaya?
I have a sneaky feeling this Shaky person may be in the process of flunking out of grad school at Charlotte, that is if he is actually enrolled in grad school.
I haven’t checked, but I also suspect he has posted the same erroneous information regarding our academics on the Winthrop board too, just like he did the coaches’ salaries.
Wonder if he honks a horn when the prof. asks if anyone has any questions…
Yawn,
You guys are boring me now, I thought at least you could come up with something good. So it’s established now, I present facts that WU is a better undergraduate school than Charlotte, Winthrop is a better basketball program than Charlotte, and you call names and act like 5th graders.
No wonder there are no former UNCC undergrads in my graduate program.
Shakeshoes, why are you so anti-Charlotte if UNCC is the school you currently attend?
Let’s say we make it to the elite eight next year (yeah yeah I know, but it’s hypothetical, bear with me), when all your friends (assuming you have freinds) say “Hey man congrats, your team is doing awesome!” what do you say? “Nah man, yeah I go to school there but I HATE the Niners.”
It just doesnt make sense to me. Who at UNCC pissed in your cereal??
So it's established now, I present facts that WU is a better undergraduate school than Charlotte,
Ok, I saw no facts whatsoever presented by you that support this statement. I saw you type it, but never saw any facts to back it up. Now while had you said something like, “It’s a fact peeing with my clown suspenders on is really difficult” then ok, you’re the expert and I’d never question it. But you don’t get the benefit of the doubt when it comes institutions of higher learning.
Winthrop is a better basketball program than Charlotte,
No, it’s really not. A few good years with a solid coach don’t put your program over ours. Want to know why? Because if both jobs became available at the same time there would be far more interest in the Charlotte job than there would in the Winthrop job. That is an indisputable fact. There was interest in this job from Marshall when he was your coach, that should show you who’s program is better.
and you call names and act like 5th graders.
I resent that. Our name calling is far and away above a 5th grade level. 9th or 10th at least. But since you never completed those grades I’m not surprised you don’t recognize it.
“Make me a bicycle clown!”
I’m not actually. I’ve been to games at Halton and pull for them. I dated one of the golddusters back in the early 2000’s so I know the undergrad scene as well. However, my first allegiance is with WU and I just expressed the facts that the program is better. I’m not sure why everyone got so offended to the point of writing incoherent mish mash that makes no sense whatsoever.

I’m still gonna say our undergrad program is better, because we have enough real degrees to split them into seperate schools. Plus you don’t have engineering. It’s easier to keep standards higher when enrollment is low. And it could be argued that Winthrop had a better team over the past two seasons, but that reign came to an end Saturday.
But we bore you, so I welcome back that "bug "that wouldn’t allow you to log on before. Of course, scientists have not yet classified stupidity as a “bug”…

You have exposed no facts, you’ve gotta be kidding me. We repeatedly point out the FACTS to you why Winthrop is still in the Big South and still is below many programs including Charlotte. Next thing you know, you Winthrop fans will be saying your program is above Witchita State.
I'm not sure why everyone got so offended to the point of writing incoherent mish mash that makes no sense whatsoever.I know the answer to that one! You falsley claimed that our tiny little basketball program was inferior to your big, mighty powerhouse [end sarcasm].
Seriously, look at the history of both teams. We own Winthrop.
Go scare a baby at it’s Birthday party.
In the past, in the past, in the past. The past doesn’t matter. The most current trend is that Charlotte is a pretty mediocre basketball program and WU is a top 25 program (look at the rankings). I could care less about 5, 10 years ago. That is for people searching for either an excuse or hope.
I never said the graduate program admissions were better at WU, I said the undergrad were, and they are.
Alas, which is why I chose Winthrop for undergrad, and Charlotte for grad.
