Utter and some other guys mentioned last night in the shoutbox that both players and coaches read the board. On the one hand, in a perfect world they should be free to read what they want, they’re adults and are intelligent enough to recognize what a message board is, and it probably is fun to read comments that praise their play.
On the other hand, the board can get awfully negative after a loss. Individual players and coaches could take a lot of what is said on here personally and might be hurt by it. Every message board in America has negativity on it at some point, so that should be expected (even if it isn’t right). I think if I was the coach I’d pretty much ban players and coaches from reading these boards to protect them from the negativity and keep it from affecting the team’s play.
I remember a couple years ago reading the board when a number of posters were bashing Mitchell Baldwin, saying some really nasty stuff. Then some guys mentioned that he reads the boards. I felt pretty bad for him about that, because he seemed like a good guy (and imo his play wasn’t all that bad, especially relative to what we had after he left). I think there really needs to be some kind of shield between the players and the comments that often get put on here, particularly when folks start venting after a tough loss. I view the board as entertainment for dissecting and discussing games much as you would with fans at a bar after the game is over (particularly for those of us who now live far from Charlotte), not serious criticism that players should be taking to heart. What’s the answer?
I am not sure you can control what the players or coaches read. I think it’s the responsiblity of the coaches and players to get prepared for the game and not get caught up in what fans say on a message board. Some need to find the line between being critical of the player’s play and questioning some coaching decisions and taking personal attacks on the player or coach.
I don’t think the coaches should read the boards, but it doesn’t surpise me that they read the boards.
I have no doubt that they read the board. Notice how we all complained about Lee being selfish after the Maryland game and he then talked about that the next week and improved. I don’t want to give us too much credit, but I know administration reads this board as well.
How could they not? Should or shouldn't doesn't matter. It's a given. With that in mind, we should speak ours, but with cooler heads.
It's their choice, but coaches do a lot of things to affect player behavior off the court. I'm not sure I'd tell players they can't do it, but I'd strongly discourage them from it, and warn them that it can get ugly. The problem is that most posters do keep a relatively even keel, but you're always going to have one or two or a few people that lose it and say crappy things. Not sure that can or will ever be controlled because it happens on every single message board that isn't heavily censored.

I think you can warn them, but that’s about it. Lutz can’t put web filters for this site, and others, on their computers. To me, some of what is said here can be beneficial. Not from an X’s and O’s standpoint, but just general observations that many see and then post after the games. As a player, you have to have a good mental filter. You let in the useful criticism, and disregard the dirt and venom that show up after losses. I don’t think I would read the board if I was a player, because I would not really give a d@mn what a fan said about me, period.:mallet:
It’s tough. We all know they are going to read, but hopefully they understand this is how fans vent their frustration immediately after the game. It doesn’t mean we hate them or even know what we are talking about.
But we care about the team enough to get so worked up, and we just want to let it out. If they don’t want to read criticism, then maybe the rule should be stay away for two days after a bad game until everyone calms. Everyone of our players appear to be good guys. And if they do read this, I pull for them to do well no matter what, whether playing after graduation, or proceeding at school.
But this is a message board, basically a broadcasted water cooler talk. If you want to know what fans say in conversation at a bar, here it is. If you don’t want to hear the sometimes mean comments, you have to stay out of the conversation.

Really…
[B]Dear, Sirs and Madams of the Board of Trustees:
I would like to propose the school name be changed to the University of Charlotte to shed any further confusion. This University of Charlotte should shine on a national stage in Football under the leadership of Chancellor Mac Everette. Additionally, the UNC system should be shown the way of their over zealous follies in their quest to exalt a flagship school and the proposed medical school shall bear the name of University of Charlotte. Under these circumstances, the school will continue it’s explosive growth and build momentum in receiving financial support from alumni and the community. This shall make us all happy. Thank you.

P.S.
Quickly change the medical school to be under our jurisdiction, before it’s too late.

Dear BoT Members,
I second my esteemed collegue’s worthy recommendations.
G.S. Adams II (BSME)
P.S. Failure to vote yes for football will most likely result in my never donating one red cent to this university. I’m sure I’m not the only one either, just something for you to ponder over when you do vote YES.
Out of curiosity, are you trying to see how much you can **** things up? You made no attempt at a law school, no attempt at a med school, and we still do not have football. You are on the way to being universally known for being in charge of the world’s largest small college.
Give your students something to be proud of (hint: the initials “unc” is not it). Duke has their basketball, chapel hill has their high percentage of gays, ECU has a med school, App has football, UNCW has the ocean, UNCA has BDD, and unc-r has the state capital. We want something too.
