So how does where we finished affect our A-10 schedule next season, are we a high tier now? Does it just change every year?
Yeah, well ask UNC-R what its liek to have talent but no PG.
Thatās what I was basing my opinion off of, and why I thought Wolf transferring was a real head scratcher. He should have just red shirted.
FWIW, I think Wolf would have played a number of minutes as Lavenderās backup, then major minutes after the latterās injury versus the Niners. And next season he would have been the starter.
Yes, PG is important. If Trent Meachem hadnāt transferred from Dayton to Illinois after his freshman season, then there would be no question about the Flyers being in the Big Dance, even with an injury to Chris Wright. And we saw how much Richmond improved after they finally got a PG in Kevin Anderson.
I was at the Charlotte-SLU game. I was very impressed with Gerrity. He literally shut-down Lisch that night, which is no easy task. He seemed to be all over the court grabbing lose balls and creating turn-overs for the Bills. Kind of reminded of one of my favorite recent Billikens, Anthony Drejaj. Many of you may remember him as a tough ethnic guard from Northern New Jersey. Won the one our last NIT games against Iowa with a clutch 3.
Good luck in the NIT
Tarheel (the state) Billiken
Well, SI thinks Lavender and Burrell are important...
Did everyone just get the SI cover curse?
Did everyone just get the SI cover curse?
Except for us, I thinkā¦
NA, I like Xavier to finish at the top again in spite of losing Burrell, Duncan, and Lavender. Coming back are these starters: 6-8 F Derrick Brown (10.7 ppg, 6.6 rpg), 6-6 G/F C.J. Anderson (10.6 ppg, 6.0 rpg), and 6-6 G/F B.J. Raymond (10.3 rpg, 3.1 rpg). Also returning are key reserves 6-4 G Adrion Graves, 6-5 G Dante Jackson, and 6-9 C/F Jason Love (6.2 ppg, 5.5 rpg).
In addition to those returnees, the X-Men gain 6-8 F Jamal McLean (transfer from Tulsa, where he played in all 31 games as a frosh in 2006-07 and averaged 6.0 ppg and 4.8 rpg [2nd on team] and had career-highs of 10 points and 11 rebounds in a game at Arkansas), as well as a freshman class that includes 6-11 C Kenny Frease (Rivals #41), 6-1 PG Mark Lyons (Rivals #120), 6-0 PG Brad Redford (2008 Michigan Mr. Basketball), and 6-4 SG Brian Walsh.
The Musketeers arenāt rebuilding ā just reloading! The biggest shoes to fill will be at PG and if Johnny Wolf had not tranferred to UNCW, then there wouldnāt be any questions there. Until someone else can knock them off, X is the team to beat.
It will be interesting to see how well Lyons/Jackson run the point next year. You can count on the PG being good though, thatās Millerās speciality. Of course, it shouldnāt be too hard to rack up a few dimes when you have a frontcourt of Brown, Frease, Anderson, Love, and McLean. I suspect BJ Raymond might play a lot @ the 2 guard next year so the size is going to be nasty, doesnāt hurt that he can knock down a jumper just about anywhere on the floor.
Also, Redford is a lethal shooter but I suspect he will either be RS or brought along slowly. Many X posters have said the coaching staff thinks Walsh is the frosh coming in most ready to contribute.
X will be nasty next year if the PG play is solid, top 25 easy.
