So which facility is correctly sized? Halton or Richardson

clt says we should add a classroom or dorms to the upper decks at the rich. Then the state can pay for them.

We need to be at 25k+. We need to have the ability to host the “big” games in order to offset the “little” games. We need 25k+ to get the recruits in the door.

That “middle” deck should be added WITH luxury boxes on the away side to match the press box on the home side.

I HOPE we’re just thinking of how to fund it at this point.
That would be great, but compared to the 15,300 actual seats we have now-----20,000 permanent seats would satisfy me in the short term. Remember, this would still allow room for several thousand (5,000+) temporary seats to be brought in for “big games”.
Judy has turned her nose up at the idea of temp seats before… ::)
Additional bathrooms could already be part of the expansion to 20,000 (ie; add enough to cover 25,000 people).
I have to question the whole “not enough bathrooms” thing in the first place. No where in any renderings did they show any additional bathrooms other than what is already in place; or anything shown under the deck that could constitute a bathroom or concession stand on the second level. Now they could have just left such out of any renderings, but that would seem odd if you already have the designs for a 40K stadium already done.
I have found that odd as well. I just assumed the additional facilities are UNDER the upper deck. I don’t think there are enough bathrooms currently in place given the back up I have seen with our current crowds.
I was going to say the opposite. The only time I’ve ever seen a line was during exiting after the game ended.
Must not have tried to piss during half time.

Nope, halftime is the wrong time.

I was thinking more the lines my wife and daughter have seen. With that said if there are lines at halftime I think that’s a sign more facilities must be available for another 5-10k seats.

I challenge anyone to visit a restroom at any athletic event during half time and get back to me on the lines.

Agree but if we have backed up lines with our crowds then no way can we add more seats without addressing the facilities.

clt says imagine how amazed the apple state fans will be to see indoor plumbing!

I have went to UT football games since I was a child (went to the UF game last year), and the bathroom lines at The Rich are a fraction of what they are at Neyland. I know that we have to expand our bathroom facilities per building codes to expand, but compared to what I am used to, they are fantastic :).

Are these state or federal codes? I ask because I don’t know and they might differ from state to state if the states are the final say. It could also be the whole old vs. new thing where the older parts of Neyland were built to a different code and only the new sections have to be built to existing code.

Again, I don’t know. Just thinking aloud. Or via pixelated text. Whatever have you.

Basically agree. We need to expand but I fear it would just be more empty seats at this point.

State code has the final say.

Was bored and waiting for something to be emailed to me at work so I ran the numbers, but according to the IBC the toilet issue is such:

Current Capacity of 15,300

 • 72 toilets Men
 • 142 toilets Women

If we bumped up to 20,000

 • 91 toilets Men
 • 180 toilets Women

This can all be handled in different ways, since I’ve never done a stadium, I’m not sure if any bathrooms in the fieldhouse would count towards the toilet load. Also, before somebody wants to be autistic, 1/3 of the men’s toilets can be urinals.

How long before each seat is equipped with a urine hose?

Yeah, I don’t have a problem with either. The Rich was built to be expanded upon, so it’s the right size for right now. I love Halton, we just need to win.

Doesn’t matter if there’s empty seats since we need 1 big game a year to help the average. It’s more important to NOT have the smallest stadium in FBS so that we can get recruits in the door, so we can win more games, so we CAN put butts in those extra seats.

I don’t think anyone doesn’t understand the need for a larger stadium. I think we all want it and I think we all understand why. With that said our AD hasn’t been able to prove they can sell the extra seats at our current capacity and somehow we have to pay for those added seats. For me those are the two big things. I am very anxious to see how the later start times impact sales and attendance.

This.
Hopefully the attendence improves with later start times leading to more students and non-students attending games. We need a larger stadium long term, I just hope we can fill it.

Since there won’t be any expansion at least for this year, we can consider this season the experiment.

Sure we probably won’t be able to fill up 25,000 seats every game (because we haven’t even filled up 15,000 for every game), but with a potentially ranked Marshall team rolling into town, there are going to be A LOT of ticket requests. That game will be SRO without question.

It may not be big time college football in the sense of the SEC, but it’ll have a big time atmosphere.

I think the AD is going to be shocked when those Marshall fans start coming in. Hope we are ready for them on the field and off.
