I read that yesterday and didn’t see any “dig” at Messi. Not sure why people see that. Anyway, it’s no secret Messi preferred going back to Barca, he never wanted to leave Barca for PSG in the first place. Unfortunately, Barca’s previous president royally screwed the club and should be in jail. That, along with La Liga President Tebas’s personal vendetta against Barcelona, made it impossible for Barca to keep Messi and also to resign. Messi personally stated that he didn’t want the team to release other good players just to make room for him. I am glad he is coming to the US because now my son and I can go see him before he retires. I’m pretty sure the wife influenced that decision because no way she wanted to go to Saudi Arabia.

You can replace Laporta with an ACC coach / beat writer / fan commenting on a player transferring to the AAC to get the smugness of the statement.
I don’t see it as a “dig” as Messi said the same thing himself. He essentially wanted out of the European spotlight to be able to concentrate more on family, etc.

And then the match got called because the Mexican fans were even more classless, just like last time we beat them. Trash fans.
We need a new rival. Mexico has been surpassed.
But because Mexico started playing dirty, we are going to be without Dest and McKennie for the final against Canada.
This is the USA team that I have been hoping for. We looked clearly superior. Better at every position. This looked like a team that could make a serious run in 2026.
