Not sure what the Man City GK was thinking:
Always nice to see City lose…especially in such poor fashion as that.
Yeah, that was weird.
Not sure Donnarumma is the answer though because he does not seem like a typical “Pep Guardiola” style goal keeper at all.

I really don’t have an appetite for yet another sports conspiracy theory, but this one is that US Soccer is requiring the USMNT Coach to take X # of players from MLS instead of picking the best team. This statement is just the Coach holding the company line.
If so, that’s beyond stupid. USMNT will never ever win anything with policies like that.

I may be the only one on here who cares but this is all true, conspiracy theories or not.
Is he wrong, though? MLS probably is more competitive than some leagues in Europe. Not the Bundesliga, Ligue 1, Serie A, Premier League, La Liga, or maybe even the EFL Championship. Is it more competitive than the Austrian Bundesliga? Probably. Turkey? Croatia? Russia? Yeah, probably more competitive. Belgium, Switzerland, etc., etc. There’s a ton of leagues in Europe that MLS would be more competitive than.
And to the other point, no I don’t think there’s an MLS quota. I think he’s still figuring out what he has to work with, which it terrible at this point. They took entirely too long to fire Gregg and hire him. I do think there is talent in MLS, though I am not paying for Apple TV to watch it. Reyna isn’t getting any minutes in Europe. Minutes are why Matt Turner came back to MLS. You can’t get into a national team without regular club PT. That’s not unique to the US.
I think the focus of that point was ignoring players who are playing intentionally on top clubs in top leagues… though your point is well made re: Reyna.
Current US squad just isn’t very good.
I have completely lost faith in the Coach and US Soccer. They started backups at defense today. I have no idea WTF they are doing.
Our best chance would have been retaining BJ Callaghan and actually putting our best players out there.
The U.S. is going to get grouped on its home soil in the World Cup. Absolute travesty.
