Antonela is a stunner. Hard to believe they met each other when they were 8 and 9 years old, respectively.
It has been my current experience that a significant portion of the fees are expensive tournament fees. Many tournaments are very obvious cash grabs. I’m less upset about paying a solid coaching staff given just how many hours they put in with the players - provided they’re invested and involved.
Most clubs have an unspoken subsidized team at each age group too. It’s handled slightly differently at each club, but to be blunt about it, these teams tend to populated by 1st or 2nd generation immigrants children, and they usually pay heavily reduced fees with some kind of nominal faux downgrade in the status of the team (eg my son’s team lost championship final matches in tournaments in TN and Winston to the same “rec league” team that was clearly just as heavily recruited and coached as his high level competitive team).
It’s still damn expensive though. The star player on our high school team is getting multiple D1 offers. He is a damn good player. And a scholarship is an awesome prize. But how much money have his parents paid into the system in order to earn one? It’s easily a year’s worth of tuition. Probably getting close to 2 years. And there’s no guarantee you’re getting one. That’s an expensive bet.
I’d pay to keep him away from the team.
Not an outright Lalas hater (he’s a boob, but he’s on TV… whaddya expect?), but omfg that’s a terrible idea.
Don’t get my hopes up.
clt says there is only one option for usmnt now
