"Most of the early criticism had nothing to do with money, however. It had to do with perceived status and perceived roles. Charlotte is the commuter school on the edge of town that does not play in the ACC. Yet it wants football?
I found the criticism sickening. I mean, half the schools in the ACC don’t play football."
Ouch
I think we can cover 47.5 spread against the Hokies.
Who knows a bookie? I want to put $ on us covering the spread vs. VT.
I’ve had some problems with Tom over the years, but his take on our quest for football has been quite refreshing. He’s had sort of a visitation and a healing it seems in regard to us, but whatever, his support has been very uplifting to me. Thanks Tom. I’m looking forward to more of your comments about NINER football in the future.
The 49ers have considered football for more than a decade. Long ago there were clandestine meetings in dark rooms at which you needed a password, and a green and white shirt, to get in. And then in 2006, Charlotte Chancellor Dr. Phil Dubois broached the subject, officially, at a retreat of the board of trustees.
Ya know, I kinda wish the story that is often heard about what happened at the beginning was about the students and alums. Not because we did in fact get this thing rolling and deserve credit, but because it’s a better story while still being the truth.
Some people get the impression that no one cares. That it’s only a few nerdy students at our games who are loud, that we don’t have hardly any fans, that few alums care about and support the school. This (football) actually happening should slap that impression down. It should be something to rally around for all Niners. We do exist, we do care, and we can get something done. Come join us.
But instead, it often goes from “10 years of talks and then Judy Rose/Phil DuBois doing something.” Kinda a shame. Kinda a waste.
I always thought Tom was fair to us. Which is more than I can say for his boss.
Clandestine meetings, a password, & a green/white shirt are codewords for we made the Admin do it without Tom losing his media pass from the school.
Hahaha. Good call, Ken. Probably.
His change of heart or writing seemed to coincide with his son going to school at Charlotte. It’s almost as if he understood are argument about taking pride in your school when it hit home for him.

Really? I did not know that. It makes sense. His take on us prior to that was lukewarm at best, and derisive at worst. Tom, all is forgiven. Welcome to NINER NATION, to your son and you!

'bust - Your right, but this is a sign of success. Otherwise no one would wan’t to jump in front of the parade.
I think the Niners football team is going to suprise folks - it’ll come sooner rather than later.
