This was embarrassing. How do we only beat South Carolina by 2?!? Should have crushed them. That team does not belong on the same court as us.
Been saying this and donât see a reason to stop. We are going to get crushed by Miami.

It was our ball with 14 seconds left. There is no needing a rebound from Thorne. We either get fouled, have 2 shots and make the sub between shots or worst case we turn the ball over, but personally, I wouldnât have Thorne in there just in case that happens so he can play defense. If we turned it over, we had fouls to give and could have fouled and subbed him in then. It was just a terrible move by Major.
Iâm not trying to give him an award Iâm just stating thats the likely reason and I donât entirely fault him for that. I almost wish he took Thorne out and they stole it and scored so I could see people type how stupid major was for removing our rim protection.
Some miserable people on here after a comeback win vs a P5 schools. Even if itâs USC.
Great two wins! Maybe we have tried but I have always thought we should schedule any teams from the SEC, Big 10, and other âtopâ conferences, especially those in the lower tier. Wins over Penn St and South Carolina, if nothing else, look good. Take care of busniess against Miami. We are due to beat them. In fact, we are due a lot of wins after the last few years.
It is nice to have options. Many are contributing and it is nice to see. Keep it going! Go Niners!
This was as good a win as weâve had under the Major era. Sure, USC isnât a good team, but the fact that they played the passing lanes so well in the first half, were shooting lights out, and really imposed their will on usâŚfor us to come back from 14 points down was impressive. I thought we were in for a rout after the first 6-8 minutes. We looked burnt out from last night. But Iâll be damned if we didnât come out of half time and continue with some momentum we were building at the end of the first half.
Great fun watching this team, even when we didnât play our best ball tonight, we are always hustling and we play a pretty entertaining brand of basketball.
One play deserves a special shout out:
Thorne ran the floor to block the lay in attempt, then beat 3 cocks back down to the offensive end in transition to get the shot attempt where he drew the foul and then made the free throws. One of the best hustle plays Iâve ever seen a player in a Niner uniform make.
I hope we show up against Miami. We are 0-fer against Jim Larranaga if memory serves correctly. We have a legitimate chance to make an early season statement that could go a long way towards a tourney bid with three P5 wins early on and another Miami game, GT, GW, and Georgetown still on tap. We could build a real resume this year. Starts with taking care of business on Sunday night.

Because they are P5 in name only. Thes are garbage programs from garbage schools that we should dominate easily. If itâs Michigan and Kentucky respectfully I am singing a different tune. Miami is a middle of the road ACC team. After that game you will see how far we still have to go.

What are you on about? You act as if Penn state and USC are Monmouth and Mount Saint Maryâs. We were underdogs in both games and won both.

Defeating ANY P5 schools enhances our perception, not to mention usually our rpi too.
I hope the above post is sarcasm. I donât understand not being excited to see how we have started the season.
Loved this quote from the Observer articleâŚ
âThey came out and imposed their will on us early in the second half,â said South Carolina coach Frank Martin. âThey basically said: âHereâs the ball. Weâre taking it to the rim. Good luck stopping that.â â 8)

In 2013, they signed two 4 star players and four 3 star players. They had players ranked 100 and 43 on Rivals in 2013. Let me know when we sign a class with two players in the top 100.
In the 2014 class, they signed one 4 star (ranked 94th) and three 3 star players, one ranked 135th.
For 2015, they signed the #34 player in the class and a three star ranked 133rd.
USC certainly isnât the greatest P5 program, but even as a âgarbageâ P5 program, theyâre recruiting well. They just didnât have the coaching talent to take advantage of it.
Theyâre going to be real, real good in a year or two.

Last year we struggled to beat bottom level cusa teams. We have not accomplished enough in a decade to call any P5 school garbage. We have not even been good enough to be top of mid-major. Take this win for what it is⌠a win. Letâs see how we do vs. Miami. Iâm not a Major fan, but if we can keep winning I can deal with him

YeahâŚI agree. I meant the post from Honest Niner. I could not be happier.
Honest Niner is honestly braindead.
We played really, really good basketball in the second half.
Iâm still scared of January, but hot damn what a start. This looks different from every major team so far. This looks like a culmination team.
Look itâs simple. Am I happy we won? Of course, who isnât? Thatâs no the issue. The issue this team is supposed to dance. If we wan to dance outing away garbage P5 teams needs to be a given. Thatâs simply the truth of it. Like or not I could care less, I just want us to dance.
With all that said baring a miracle we wonât beat Miami. Need to keep it within 10 to be a good win. But I think we lose by >15.
Like it, hate it, thatâs my take.
In the past, this is a game where we would have gotten frustrated and gotten blown off the floor. I was happy the team showed some fight and got back into the game. That shows theyâve making some progress mentally. Of course, now we are playing one of the programs that has blown us off the court under Major. Iâm hoping for a 1-1 split at the very least, though Iâm afraid if we lose Sunday we lose again Tuesday simply because we havenât seen Majorâs teams show much success in making adjustments when the gameplan goes awry. But maybe a game like today helps that.
Either way, itâs great we are playing name brand schools, even if they are more name brand for football. The committee often gives the peons like us credit for beating the big conference teams even from the lower tier, whereas the high level teams would not get such credit. (And I think this South Carolina win may go further than we think. Frank Martin has that team on the rise and the SEC is wide open after UK and Florida. They played Baylor really tough the other night at home, losing by just 4.) Plus we are given no shame in losing to these types of teams, which doesnât happen when we lose to non-con teams like Coastal, or if we played and lost to Akron in this tourney.
I predict 2 victories over Miami this week because of our personnel and their personnel. Our personnel is a lot different this year and will give Miami more than they can handle, and Miami also lost some key players. We are bigger and quicker than them and we have a score to settle.
