Sports on Charlotte radio - Why can't we get on FM radio?

Tonight, while driving home from the east side of Charlotte to the University area, I tuned into the NC State v. Miami basketball game. Moving around the dial, I also found the NC State v. BC game.

Tonight on Charlotte radio, I had a choice of NC State womens basketball on 106.1 FM, the Bobcats network or NC State men’s basketball on 95.7 FM.

Why is it easier for NC State women’s basketball to get on FM radio in Charlotte than any 49ers team ???

State foots the bill

State foots the bill

and my gag reflex

We used to be on 106.5. Anyway, it all comes down to money. If there were an FM station in Charlotte that could realize a greater financial return by broadcasting Niner hoops instead of its regular programming, then it would be happening. That’s the sad reality…

Check out App’s radio network. I can get their games crystal clear here, but not my 9ers. This is from their basketball media guide…

I heard App hoops on Raleigh radio one night… those ratings cant be too “hot hot hot”.

Which came first the chicken or the egg?

~We can’t afford to buy airtime on a radio station with a decent signal
~We don’t have the money because we don’t generate enough community support
~We don’t generate enough community support because we don’t promote ourselves well
~One of the things we need to promote ourselves is a decent radio signal

We used to have good radio broadcasts, and could see most away conference games on local tv. It may boil down to money, but why are we going backwards in this respect?

Stop making the tournament, stop making money?

If we ever get the opportunity to have our games on 1110-WBT, we need to jump on it. Carolina benefited from that exposure for years. At night they are heard from Canada to Cuba. We would certainly get our games out across most of the other A10 markets. I despise the 1660-WFNA signal interference from another station at my home in south Charlotte. I get better reception of some of the Xavier and Dayton games than I do my home team.

I am sure we could use the money, but our radio went downhill before our post season dry spell.

Fair enough.

Probably the costs of doing business have gone up as the radio market has gone down.

…or better yet, maybe the new comissioner will try to get the A10 a deal with a satelitte radio comapny. I think you’ll get more fans that will sign up to pay $12/month for sirius than paying $5/month for webcasts.

I was just about to ask that Max. I have Sirius, which covers the Big East, Big 12, Pac 10, the SoCon ($^%#@$), and a few other BFE conferences.

What doesn XM have, the other three BCS conferences and a few more smaller conferences? The A-10 isn’t on XM? Damn, I heard Army vs. Lehigh on Sirius one Sunday afternoon.

I would get satellite radio if we were on it.

We have had this discussion before when Real used to frequent the board, but I think State buys the time on the radio stations they are on. They sell their own advertising and run the entire broadcast during the timeframe the game airs. UNC-CH does the same thing. We need to find a Sugar Daddy sponsor or two to get our games on 106.5 again. Having LutzLive on there would be nice also. I have no idea what 3 hours of FM radio airtime costs, but it ain’t cheap.

Does App really have that much more money than us??? One of their affiliates is 106.1 FM in Charlotte. Not to mention the dozens of AM stations they are on. They don’t have NCAA Tournament revenue. I guess they get their money from football??? Interesting…

I guess this is bringing some same-old comments.

I knew we were rather cash poor as far as getting on radio, but I didn’t realize until last night that it is easier for Moo U to build a women’s basketball radio network than for us to have ONE STINKIN’ STATION in our hometown that is worth a damn.

:lmao: It does make you wonder if we know the whole story.

I don’t understand how our untelevised games can’t get on our fu**in’ TV channel?
