Student Turnout

Yes, Shinn did it for years. We’ve done it for years. Everyone’s done it for years. Is it right? No. But to buck the trend and intentionally report butts in seats instead of tickets sold/distributed would be masochistic.

I agree, I wasn't in 104 for all of those games, but this game definitely had the loudest moments as far as I can remember. The only time I can remember that could match recently (A10 days) was the double OT game vs. Davidson in 05-06.

This is sad…it does make me appreciate even more what it USED to be like. Honestly, the Clemson game (for me atleast) did not even come close to the atmosphere of Cincy (all of them), Louisville, Marquette or Memphis (some of them)…Evidence comes from a simple test–I had no trouble on Saturday talking to the person next to me at any time. During Cincy games, you could NOT hear the person next to you (or yourself) talking much of the time.

Was just getting ready to post the same thing. It’s obvious now how young the crowd is that we have on these boards.

If I’m mistaken let me know, but I didn’t think the students in the upper section stood during Clemson, during the Cindy games, the students stood in the lower bowl and in the upper section.

You are mistaken. Everyone in the top half was standing for the whole game. I was in the back of the door 1 line, so I had to go up there.

Good, was only looking at the upper sections during time outs.

the Clemon game was a great atmosphere, but not comparable to our CUSA days. IMHO.

DOBA. When Huggins was in the house with Vitale, it was deafening.

like I said I was not around for those games that you speak of but I loved the atmosphere on Saturday (and I wash we could’ve won…) not just for the W, but to KEEP IT!!! …I’m scared to compare attendance numbers for the rest of the season if we continue this sloppy play.
-However as long as we are COMPETITIVE (ugh…I hate to use that word to describe our team…) I think people will show up because they know we will have a shot…I hope.

competitive won’t cut it. We have to win to put non-believers in the seats.

I know…I know… but one point losses and OT losses = a competitive team… not wins

Good lord.

By the way, back in CUSA days, it rained $100 bills on our campus, nonstop, you could eat anything you want and never get fat or sick, and cheep beer tasted better than the finest single malt. Every woman on campus was a “10”, and they all wanted to go home with you that night, and they were okay if you didn’t call them back in the morning. And we never lost a game, ever. All the professors gave only A’s, didn’t make you come to class, and you were guaranteed a $100k salary upon graduation.

Back in the world of reality - The Clemson game this weekend was reminiscent of every good conference game environment we had, with the exception of most of the Cincy games and anytime the opponent was highly ranked, in which case it would be defeaning in there and absolutely electric.

I can’t believe some of these wax nostalgic types are the same bozos who would whine every year about how only 3500 showed up to play Southern Miss. We used to have battles where people would whine that we counted tickets sold and not butts in seats.

With the exception of a couple seasons ago, our paid attendance has been between 6500 and 7500 every season, with actual butts in seats reflecting how good we were that year. In CUSA era halton, there were maybe 15-20 games in about 8 years that were truly “next level” in terms of the event, and 2/3rds of those were because of Bob Huggins.

The same people have pretty much been coming to our games for a decade - we’ve probably gained 0.9 fans for every one we lost for the past 5 years.

Some truth about attendance/atmosphere - btw these threads are from the Eddie/Plav era, some of our best teams and the high point of CUSA. It was worse than this before then:

Run breaking down CUSA attendance

people griping about attendance our last year in CUSA (the year we won it & Eddie won MVP)

A humorous exchange between gamer & run in light of this past weekend

And there are numerous other threads archived where I was usually battling detractors who lambasted our attendance and game environment.

I guess it was only a matter of time until I found myself fighting the opposite perception.

Uh, wasn’t this almost exactly what I said above?

I didn’t mention “attendance”. I was talking specifically about the crowd noise, electricity, etc,… at the Clemson game PERIOD as compared to past games (giving my opinion after others had given there’s)…geez

nice cheap shot…

it’s not nostalgia…get your f’n panties out of a wad. It was an OPINION. I thought the Clemson game was a blast and enjoyed the atmosphere…go find something else to rag about.

Look at the statement I quoted please. Thanks.

Sorry, you also said the same “bozos” (plural) so I assumed you were ripping into my post like you do so often…my bad

Thanks for the backhanded apology. I’ll try not to wince.

Metro and a couple of others like to talk about the “golden era” of CUSA. There were a handful of magic days in Halton in that era, but to be blunt about it, it was usually the Cincy game plus one other (whoever was hot that year). Otherwise, we were happy to have the type of atmosphere we had this past weekend, when we were able to get it.

Give the kids now some credit. They did good. There’s another notch up left to take it, but that wasn’t bad at all.

I do hope all of our younger fans get to experience Halton when its so loud that you’re having trouble thinking and cant talk to anyone around you. That is amazing, and it can happen again.

couple of others :lmao:

you mean most of nnn who was around then?? You and Run are the only ones who hate on CUSA. The reality is, it was easier to recruit in that league- studs wanted to be in that league, you can quote league RPI bs until your heart is content. Fact is, the lower rungs ie, ECU and USF were funner games compared to Duquesne and Fordham, and well the upper crust games we are aware of in Cinci, Mem, UL, Marq, Depaul. It was also a “golden era” where we were climbing upward instead of spiraling into abyss.

you’re in the minority bro when it comes to “over romanticizing” CUSA

that said, I gave props to our existing students a few pages back.
