Sugar Bowl

Anybody catch the game last night? If so, did you notice Thom Brennaman’s Big10 bias?

I watched some of it, but I couldn’t stomach the whole thing. It was pitiful.

Am I missing something here? The Sugar was with Hawaii and Georgie right… Why would he be talking about the Big 10 at all??

I think the idea is that he thinks Thom wasn’t giving the SEC enough credit.

Exactly, he shouldn’t have been. He chirped in quite a few times and expressed his opinions. Very early in the game he talked about how tired he is of the nation discrediting OSU. If you’re a Georgia or Hawaii fan who gives a rat’s a$$? Then he made a comment about nobody traveling better than OSU. He criticized Georgia’s play calling as far as calling it classless. He said how disappointed he felt for the whole country to not be able to see Hawaii’s offense. If you’re a Georgia or USC fan you could care less about that than how disappointed you are that the BCS blows, and that you’re dissappointed that OSU is playing in the Championship game.

What does he expect, it is the first time Hawaii played against a legit defense with a pass rush.

I guess it was Georgia’s duty to let a convicted felon showcase his talent to the Nation.

I did a quick wiki reading on Brennaman and it says he went to Ohio University and called games for the Reds, so I guess he’s an Ohio boy therefore the bias with Ohio St.

I totally agree with you though, who gives. I think some of this has to do with Fox getting college football games now, they get a guy that has no experience calling CFB games and the network was probably pissed that the Sugar bowl wasn’t similar to the Boise St/OKL game last year. They pretty much got a clunker and I wouldn’t be suprised if Brennaman was trying to make it sound like it was Georgia’s fault for beating the tar out of an overranked Hawaii team. Calling them “classless” is pretty stupid though, are they suppose to let Hawaii do well so it’s an exciting game???

It also says Brennamen usually calls NFL games which are usually much closer than CFB games because the talent level is so much closer. That’s one of the problems with CFB I think, some of these bowl matchups are horrible and most of them turn out to be blow outs.

Damn Hawaii.
How dare they make the BCS look good for not giving them a title shot!
The screwed over party is supposed to win, not lose, much less get blown out!

Depends on how you look at it. Most people felt like even though UGA had 2 losses they got more of a snub than Hawaii by not being able to play for the NC. IMO...if UGA, USC and Oklahoma all win their BCS games then the BCS has not found the true champion. All 3 of those teams were playing better at the end of the season than OSU and LSU.

I give them credit for it being a difficult game to call about midway through the 3rd quarter and that they have to cross promote for the “Championship” game also on Fox. But Brennaman was getting a little too vehement in his opinions. He is aware of the never ending debate of which conference is better, the Big10 or the SEC, and that was not the time or place to discuss it. It would be akin to an announcer for a Charlotte vs Umass game with the announcer talking about how great UNC CH is.

That’s actually a debate?

That's actually a debate?

Ha! Not to me. But ask any Big10 fan and you’ll get a different answer. All it will take in their eyes will be for OSU to beat LSU and they’re the better conference.

Even if OSU beats LSU, OSU lost 8 straight bowls to the SEC.
1 of 9 is nothing to brag about.

If KU & OSU both lose, then the best record will belong to a team that lost by 31, UH. If that doesn’t scream play-off, then what does?
