Just wanna echo the huge guard problem. Iām very worried about it, because Lee & Harrris are going to be overmatched, and now weāre without Ian, our only decent sized guard. This is one that I wish we could suit up Barnett for.
BTW, NCAA 2K8 agrees with the matchup problems. I ran a sim that I watched and those guys abused us and beat us by 7.
Play Dewberry at the 2 for a bit? See how that goes?
ehh⦠Im reaching.
Ian wouldnāt help on defense. In case you havenāt been watching,heās quite slow afoot.I like the idea of Dewberry and/or Wilderness doing some work at guard,I think thats what Bobby will do a bit of.
Heās played better defense this year, but I donāt think losing him will strain us defensively. But it could be a problem on the other end.
Him being on the bench cheering on his teammates is still good for us though because he always brings energy to the game that way, even when heās not on the floor. Unlike other players (not necessarily Charlotte players, just in general), his inability to play wonāt affect his support for his team.
I watched the Duke game and wasn't really impressed with them at all. Sure Xmas had his 11-0 run but nobody hasn't pointed out that was over the course of 8 mins. It's not like he or Temple got hot quick and cut into the lead over 2 or 3 mins. This isn't a shot at Temple, but the run was partly aided by Duke not having two big guys who typically get good minutes and them just wearing down. If anything I think its a bad sign that Temple was down 19 and over the course of 8 mins Duke doesn't score and they only cut it to 8. Never was closer then that as they pulled away from Temple after getting a second wind.
They still lost by 10 (donāt let the score fool you), to an undermanned Duke team, away from home, neutral or not, it was still in Philly.
There guard size could be problematic, but we have some guys who are of good size and quick enough to give them problems (Dewhurst and Wilderness).
Cosign.
Iāve watched Temple a few times this year, including their memorable trip to Puerto Rico. You never know what you are getting with them, and they stuggle to put 2 solid halves together (sound familiar?) They never were really in that Duke game, and even when they made their little run w/ Christmas, you still always felt like they were going to dry up any minute. Its a game we should win I think (hope)!

good thing chaney isnāt there anymore. because that 1-2 punch might be taken literally and some poor kid from st joes would end up with a broken arm again.
Xmas and Tyndale are definately the engine of Temple, both in scoring and rebounding. However, as usuall with Temple I think how the game is called can be a factor, and Xmas and Tyndale could be put into foul trouble early limiting their PT. Also, Templeās subs are limited.

Saw the Temple Duke game, and Temple played decent. Duke overwhelmed them mutch of the first half, but Temple fought back within 8 or 6, before Duke took it.
Same SC on Temple:
Temple has big guards and athletic players all around. Christmas and Tyndale can light it up. They have a freshman big in Lavoy Allen who has made strides this year, and looks like a talented player for years to come. Sergio Olmos (didnāt he tear us up last year) isnāt a bad big, but I doubt he plays above 22 minutes. Michael Eric was declared inelgible for the year, so they are really limited to Olmos and Allen on the front line.
They are really limited inside, and hereās another chance for Big Phil to make his prescence known. Also, if we can get Allen or Olmos in foul trouble, that will be a huge advantage. I think offensively, their guards match up well against ours.
Lee is going to have a tough time with a 6-4 to 6-5 lengthy guard on him all night. Look for Temple to run with 4 guards A LOT in the game. BTW I really like the way Guzman plays.
reading the Observer this morning, it does sound like their gaurds are scary. I wonder if they have anything inside? Our guards are so small, maybe Anjuan can gaurd Christmas so we donāt have another Vazquez/Maryland scenario.

EDIT: during the post, I confused Tyndale and Christmas. Sorry.
I remember being at the Temple game last year. It sucked and their guards are scary. Christmas killed us. But Christmas got his points because our defense RANKED, STANK, POOPED last year during that game. Many many many many 3 pt shots were uncontested. And then no help defense occurred on drives.
Even though Harris is smaller, he can get in Christmasās way. He fights through screens, so even though he is small, I think he can disrupt the guard to not be like last year. And if someone does get by DiJuan, the other four have learned help defense. Just please donāt let Lee guard Christmas unless necessary. Dewhurst, Gerrity, DiJuan, Wilderness should be sufficient, with Jones and Coley stepping out on High low screens.
At the game last year, Temple had a foreigner who looked like a finesse center. He killed us. Was he Italian, Spanish? But we lacked anything down low last year. He was a bench player last year, and a bench player basically beat us in the paint. He seems to have a bigger role this year, but our inside this year seems to match up better. Iām pretty sure Temple runs two deep down low, but I would have Coley go to town running them up and down the court. Sorry I donāt remember the Cās name for Temple. I try to forget that game, including the nutzo step back three DA tried at the end of the game.
Hopefully our fowards can take it to theirs in order to pick up early fouls. And hopefully it is a track meet to force Tyndale and Christmas to run alot since they will play sizeable minutes.

Sergio Olmos, a 7 foot Spaniard. They also have Lavoy Allen, a freshman center (playing PF) that was ranked over Phil Jones as a recruit. Allen had 6 games in a row where he scored in double-digits - but heās been quiet lately.
Depth is an issue. Theyāre undersized (although they have big guards) if Olmos or Allen is on the bench. Thank the idiocity of the NCAA clearinghouse for their decision on Michael Eric, an athletic soccer player from Africa (think Ngoundjo). Very intelligent, he considered enrolling in one of the Ivy League schools but went to Temple to play basketball instead - yet, somehow, the clearinghouse had a problem with his foreign transcripts and wonāt let him play.
