The 90's Music Thread 🎸

A number of 90s bands - headlined by Collective Soul - playing at Rural Hill in October:

clt says don’t sleep on tonic!

Not sure this has made the list yet…

Hmm…

Meh, that’s nothing. At least Stephan Jenkins was the reason they were signed in the first place and made it. He pretty much was that band. After I saw the Gin Blossoms last month I was reading a few things about them I never knew and it was one of the crazier stories in music IMO.

The guy (lead guitarist) who wrote "Hey Jealousy"and much of their first album that got them signed and on the radio was kicked out of the band and forced to sign away all his publishing rights for like 11k dollars because he was so broke. He then killed himself a few weeks after it hit big.

I’m sure there was a lot of justification since he was an alcoholic and no doing his job well but that’s pretty hardcore from a pretty milquetoast band. The current lead singer even said they would have never have made it originally without the strength of his songwriting.

Ok, so I’m seven months late on this one, but it has the sound of a 90’s song.

This Wheatus song has been in my playlist hard for the last month.
Peppy song that is extremely sad.
When he sings “how does she know who I am?” in the third verse, it makes me feel like crying for every kid who hasn’t been accepted. Because at the end of the day, all kids just want to belong.

The “her boyfriend’s a dick, he brings a gun to school” line was heavily edited as this was just a year after Columbine.

Also, you will likely recognize the male and female leads in the video

Ruston Kelly does an amazing live cover

As do Walk Off the Earth

Tailgate playlist is going hard into the 1995-2005 timeframe. If you tailgate with us and have a request let me know.

Only requirement is it has to have been a popular song with fairly mass appeal. Sorry NA no deep cut from some band only 7.5 people know.

Technically Snow (and the album it’s from) was recorded about half a decade after the 90’s. But I’d submit the entirety of RHCP’s album Blood Sugar Sex Magic as some great 90’s music.

NWA said 1995-2005 so I was making a request.

Welp, I’m just a jackass then lol

Figured I’d submit my own post.

This is one my favorite Incubus “hits”, even though it’s an example of their shift from (imo the more entertaining) funk-ish alt-metal sound towards a more radio accesable pop-rock sound. Science, Make Yourself and Morning View are 3 fantastic albums.

Under the bridge came out my senior year. I remember jamming to the cd on the way to the beach for graduation. Makes me feel old everytime I hear that song.
