The Charlotte 49er's Men's Basketball "I've stopped caring thread..."

I wish I didn’t care. Being a fan is supposed to be enjoyable. Last year sucked my will away from me. Having our players transfer every year hurts. Watching us fail to play aggressive defense for 40 minutes hurts. Watching Majors defer to his assistants during time-outs hurts, watching our players repeat the same mistakes hurts. This year, I hoped by not purchasing season tickets it would hurt less and I wouldn’t be pissed twice a week. Alas, I still find myself listening to the games on the radio and I am still pissed off twice a week. This may be the first time I wish I had gone to a cursed ACC school rather than Charlotte as I do not see this improving and this crap just keeps me depressed.

Since I’ve been a 49ers basketball fan, this is the first season I can remember where all the games up to this point could be watched locally in Charlotte either on cable tv or antenna. The problem is, I have lost interest so much that I have not watched all the games.

I was just thinking about that too. The percentage of televised games is as good as it’s been since the CUSA 1.0 days. But I forget to watch half the time.

I bought season tickets for eight years after I graduated, including the 2 years I spent living all the way down in Alabama (working for a college athletic department that holds its coaches and employees accountable and gives a good goddamn about the product it’s putting out there, might I add). I stopped renewing my tickets last year and didn’t get them this year either. I contributed to the 49er Club, but not before giving the poor soul on the other end of the line an earful about how unhappy I was.

I still have a lot of friends in the Athletic Department from my years doing PA, so this pains me to say… but if I had to sum the Department up in one word, that word is LAZY. The marketing is lazy, uninspired, and dull… the administration is too lazy to bring in coaches who generate any excitement… and the fans are apathetic as a result, for which no one can blame them. The basketball program has gone from NCAA Tournament mainstay to non-factor in 10 years, and we just extend the coach over and over again when any administration with half a brain and any vision at all would make a change. The entire administration needs to turn over - fresh blood is needed now more than ever.
You nailed it…

I’m done getting mad though, there are more important things in life than to get mad about college sports, I will stop giving my money and my time, that’s the only way the AD will know we are not pleased, but even then they have student fees to cover their bills so it doesn’t really matter.

Unfortunatly there are some that are long time supporters commenting on the board that it could be much worse… so I guess we should be happy it isn’t… ::)
I’m with you, but I stopped getting mad about 6 years ago. These days, I’ll flip to the game, see us down by ten, and then go do something else. I get pissed we are down ten, but don’t get pissed when we eventually lose. Guess I’m just used to it now. I’ll forever be a Niner fan, but getting mad all the time used to leave me in a bad mood. I decided it wasn’t worth it to be pissed all the time. One day we’ll get back, just no idea when.

Well said. I feel the same.

I don’t even care if we have pre-game articles in the O or not, and I no longer care what page the post-game article appears on.

The reason I got so burnt out was because the frustration level with this team was so high. It was infuriating because we have so much potential. If we were a small CAA school with 8k students, it would be one thing. But we land good recruits, play a decent OOC SOS and are in a major market.

Most importantly we have proven that we can compete at a much higher level.

Im so over this program. I dont care anymore. The only thing Judy and Major bring when it comes to our basketball team is pain and sorrow.

ā€œStopped caring? We never cared to begin with.ā€ - Our Students

clt feels bad for henry.

I didnt know there was a game today.

What?!? That’s uncalled for. We play the Seahawks at 8:15.
