The King 500

Peter King lists his top 500 NFL players. Noteworthy Panthers include Julius Peppers as the 4th best player in the entire NFL, and Steve Smith(#22) as the best WR. Delhomme at 129 right behind Eli and above Tony Romo.

Also, Richard Marshall(#186) is ranked higher than Gamble(#431) and Lucas(unranked), yet he’s only our nickel corner. I agree with King here. I think he’s probably the best CB we have.

Thomas Davis ranked higher than Joey Porter…

His criteria for ranking: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writers/peter_king/08/28/the.king500/index.html

It’s nice to see he put the fact of whether a player is a team player or selfish asshole into his ratings.

I thought this was gonna be a nascar thread

glad to see eason and charsf playing nice.

no way Chad Johnson is 48.

Peppers is 4th? Please.

-not in the top 40 for tackles or Force Fumbles
-tied for 5th in sacks
-tied for the lead in blocked kicks, with 2 (of which both games they lost anyways). At most this means he stopped 6 points, considering he didn’t take anything back for a touchdown last year he is now tied with all the guys who scored at least one touchdown in my book.
-Backs up into coverage??? He didn’t have a single INT last year, and TE’s killed the panthers.

Peppers is a good player, probably top 15. Not #4, and definetly not the best defensive player in the league.

Come on man. He went to UNC.

Merriman is the only pass rusher I can think of that is better. Thing about Merriman though is that he doesn’t have to line up in a 3 pt. stance across a huge offensive tackle. Do I think the Panthers should go 3-4 and put Peppers at OLB, of course.

Freeney? (At pure pass rushing)
