Give Dooley a break, whoâs the last coach to perform well at ECU? The Pirates have had 2 NCAA Tournament appearances, both in years with losing records (one under Eddie Payne at 10-18). Dooley won 17 games twice at ECU, no other coach in the history of ECU basketball at the D1 level can say that.
Iâll put Bobbyâs salary on Chuck Norris
I donât want Dooley or Peterson, case closed.
And other than two 17 win seasons, what has he done to prove himself?

What has any coach done that we can actually hire?

Iâm not sure how I feel about Buzz Peterson getting the job. Why is he such a bad idea?
I mean Dooley didnât exactly shine at ECU. What makes Dooley such a wonderful choice?
I know right. Itâs simple really. Buzz is a Chapel Hill grad, which automatically means he microwaves kittens, punches nuns, and is best friends with Osama Bin Laden. Well, youâd think that anyways from reading this board. Iâd much rather have about a dozen other guys before Buzz and hope we go with someone else, but I do concede that being in Charlotte he would do MUCH better than he did out at Tenn. He has a lot of tools to work with here that he didnât have in Knxville.
Dooley stunk it up at ECU, but he didnât go to Carolina, which makes that OK and also means he shits solid gold, will probably cure cancer, and can beat up Chuck Norris.
Being easier for him to succeed in Charlotte than at UT is kind of hard for me to comprehend. And I donât think people are expecting he should have made a Final 4 at UT, etc. Somebody else already stated it. He only made the NCAAâs once over 11 seasons as a head coach.
If we go with Buzz, it will purely be because we âbelieveâ he can have better success in Charlotte than heâs had in the past. Thereâs nothing to prove otherwise. Itâs more of a gut feeling.

Lets see: Posted three consecutive twenty win seasons, with one NIT and two NCAA bids, at a school that had not seen the postseason since 1992. Over three years, gone 31-5 in conference winning the regular season championship all three years, and gone 50-18 overall.
Who else: Over an eight year career at two different schools, has only finished outside of the top three in his conference once. Three trips to the NCAAs as a head coach, all with schools from one-bid leagues. Turned a bottom-dwelling program into a top three program in his conference, and over eight years has never had a losing season.
There are just two examples. Should I go on?
who is the 2nd one?

Spoken like the son of a Carolina guy⌠;D âŚSeriously, if the choice is between âmediocreâ coaches Iâll take the non Tar-Hole EVERYTIME for OUR school and I wonât apologize for it either.
EDIT: Not sure where that screen-shot down there came from, but I like it.

I was stating that if we are going with an assistant coach. Obviously any head coaching candidate that has been a head coach will have a decent resume other then Buzz Peterson.

Letâs see, he was an assistant on a team that won the National Championship. He is the Jayhawks top recruiter, and consistently rated as a top 5 recruiter.

Good point, but Kansas is not a difficult place to recruit. You basically choose from a list of kids that want to play there.
The real question is whether his recruiting success at Kansas would translate to HC success at Charlotte. It could, but I think he would be risky hire.
BTW, ECU offered Dooley to come back to Greenville, and he turned them down.

You could scribble out a note telling a kid you want him to come to Kansas to play basketball, attach to to a homing pigeon, and it would fly back with a signed LOI.
The last thing we need is Bill Selfâs homing pigeon.
in defense of dooley, he had a winning record at ecu. how many coaches have a winning record at ecu? if he was 57-52 at ecu and can recruit, imagine what he can do here.

But maybe they had talent, and he just couldnât coach it.
Who gives a crap if someone worked or played at Chapel Hill if theyâre the best person for the job. Some of you are flat out ridiculous when it comes to that. Why are some of you so jealous of Chapel Hill? Who cares!!! Lets hire a coach that can win and I donât give a crap where they come from. I grew up hating a lot of different teams, but if a coach from that team can help mine win then thatâs all I care about. It does become ridiculous at times.
I donât give a rats ass that Buzz has UNC-CH ties. He blew his chance at UT already, I donât feel like heâs our best bet.
$2 on this guy
Yeah. I dont care about any ties to Chapel Hill. Whoever wins here, Iâm down with.
That being said, I dont think Buzz is that guy that âwinsâ here easy. Tons of better options at this pointâŚ
