The O Coverage

WIN.

Fridays are blue orange purple gold red pride day.

[quote=“Gill2003, post:39, topic:23501”]Ok…

So this is getting way outta hand.

Just to clarify, my post wasn’t made to agree nor disagree. Rather, it was just to point out that the ‘grammar’ argument is one of many argument that always present themselves when one side or the other gives up. It was supposed to mock the typical way NNN threads end, usually in grammar debates, political debates or seniority debates.

NNN has caused me some problems before, but now I am losing a friend over it.

Goodbye

Who is giving up? I classify the lack of Observer respect as one of the leading causes of many of our problems. That’s my opinion. I have a right to express it and I will continue to express my opinion until things improve. I admit things have improved a little but the damage has been done.

The students can have “Green Day” all they want but I want to wear my Niner gear around town and have people converse with me about our teams. In other words I want respect. I want people to know when we beat a top 5 team and I want people to know when one of our programs is ranked top 5 or top 10. ANY of our programs. The times we have had such success the article has mysteriously disappeared in the Observer. Even when other papers in the state ran the article. Last but not least our games should be included in the pregame writeups. Don’t write an article on an upcoming Davidson (without Curry) game against a Division 3 school and omit the story about our upcoming game against Temple. We deserve better.

No offense to you but you just proved my point by not knowing. Our win over a top 5 ranked baseball team last year did not make the Observer but an AP story appeared in all the other publications in the state. Out golf team was ranked top 5 2 years in a row and finished 3rd and 5th in those years. Clemson and the Triangle schools received major props in the O. We pretty much received nothing other than an after thought in the NCAA playoffs. And we LED the 1st day. Comprende?

I had on my Niner polo to go to dinner last night and my girlfriend asked me “Niner stuff all you have to wear these days?” :))

We could always go Scottish and do the Hell’s Ladies thing. Perhaps we need a 49ers’ Tartan? ;D

Unless we want to get together and buy the Observer, it’s never going to respect us. We’re not in the ACC so we don’t rate as important. Print media is a dying breed anyway. Let’s have a few beers and watch it die it’s slow death with a grin on our faces. 8)

It’s migrating to the web. Nice thought tho.

the trouble is some sports fans still read printed newspapers. are we suppose to write them off? and our online observer coverage sucks too except for the blogs. you can slice it and dice it any way you want. but the disdain of our school by our own hometown paper is responsible for many of our problems. and i will not quit making this TRUE statement.

so wait - you guys were talking about the print version of the O? I didn’t know anyone still got that!? :stuck_out_tongue:

why must you always bash the observer? they did 4 stories on us last year. that is all we deserve. (end sarcasm). what is sad is that some of our “true fans(?)” have made similar statements on this board.

You totally misread my comment lol.

He said we should toast to the demise of print media which includes the Big O. I said that it is a nice thought (as in I am a fan of the demise of the Big O), however it is moving to the internet so it’s not truly dying. Even with the newspaper hard copy not being the top form of news transmission, we will still have this same absurd, childish bullshit to deal with.

I’m with all of you that say the Observer (as well as other bodies) hold us down/treat us unfairly/yada yada, and people who have some gripe with hearing about this truth and our frustration with it are fools and need to stfu. Seriously, this stuff is egregious and absolutely unacceptable and just too many adjectives for one sentence and part of the solution is to keep the anger and resentment in regular discussion.

Yesterday Derrick Brown and Gerald Henderson led the Bobcats to victory by scoring 20 points each in an NBA summer league 85-83 win over the Jazz, with the former shooting 60% from the field (6-10 FGs), 100% from the line (7-7 FTs), grabbing 5 rebounds (3 offensive), and swiping a game high 3 steals. So, of course, the headline in the the printed Big O reads:

Jordanesque? Henderson draws comparison in win

While the online version is:

CharlotteObserver.com: Henderson finds jumper, pushes Bobcats to summer-league win

The quote at about 2:30am EST this morning (remember I’m on the 12 hour time difference) was more inline with what the print version read… I’ve noticed that their headlines change even though the story doesn’t.

I understand your point, but I read it as Henderson doing it in a manner not seen from him since he didn’t play much at all last year. Brown atleast got some burn.
