You know, the mistake of the day was actually something I liked. It made us read proofs more closely and raised our awareness, and that’s not a bad thing. My desk folks were staying late to comb the proofs, because they didn’t like being called out. Where it became silly was when they called in a fake hole in one, then used that as the mistake of the day. We had to change our policy on holes in one, no longer taking them from readers but only the club pro, then calling the club back independently to confirm, because of that.
Do we make mistakes? Yeah, we do, and when we find out about one we correct it. Do we make more than we would like? Yeah, sometimes because of the workload and the pace of what we do. Many things we cover end after 10 p.m., giving us less time than we’d like to read, proof, etc.
