Tell me about your Niners reading habits, please.
coverage has been getting better and better…obviously some slip ups here and there, but i’m buying and expect some HUGE final c-usa coverage and some preseason a-10 coverage before next year (along with recruit coverage and general info stuff during the offseason plus maybe some better women’s coverage, katie has it going on)…much improved over the last few years…this from someone who’s been reading since mid-80’s…
Jena is doing a kick ass job. Good work putting her on our beat.
I susbcribe for the 7 day delivery. I read the sports section first, regardless if Niners are in it or not. And then I read every other section. Sunday is my favorite edition and I also read the entire paper that day as well before checking out the store flyers to see if there’s another piece of hardware or electronics I want to go blow money so I can get cussed by my wife.
I’ll continue to subscribe even if the Niners were never mentioned. I just enjoy sitting down with a cup of coffee and reading the paper. I read SOME things online, but I’m a purist when it comes to a newspaper and I prefer the printed version.
Like reading online…just can’t subscribe since paper is not in Cleveland or Cali
I’m only a weekend subscriber …
I need the paper. Have you ever tried to brin a computer into the bathroom with you? It ain’t easy.
livin in Raleigh, but working at the paper, I’ll try to find one of the Charlotte Sports sections we have laying around for Niner stories/photos. I’m not sure where category that qualifies under.
Read everything online.
Co-workers bring the paper in and I read the sports section everyday, a family member gets the Sunday paper and I read Sports then too. I never buy it and I don’t read the other sections. (Big government = bad thing)

I’m a subscriber and I read all Niner coverage and read through the sports page. I scan the headlines of the other sections to see if there is anything else worth reading. I usually look through the Living section and read the editorials. On Sundays I spend a lot more time going through the paper and usually flip through all the sections as opposed to scanning the headlines.
Like Jcl, my wife and I subscribe daily. Yes, I read the sports page first during breakfast, but I do read the entire paper. And Sunday is my favorite too, especially the Perspective section.
At work, I also read the Charlotte Business Journal (plenty of UNCC-related stuff last two Fridays) and, every now and then, the New York Times. I’m just a news junkie…

MP, I am a 25 year subscriber, however for about 10 years it was in my exwife’s name. I subscribe to the 7 day delivery in Morganton and save the sports section for last, just like a fine dessert. I don’t spend a whole lot of time on the other sections unless it has something of interest to me. But, I do read the sports section thoroughly except anything that has to do with racing. I am been extremely pleased with the coverage ya’ll have been giving the Niners this year, even before the team started gelling and having major success. I am glad you have posted this survey because I again want to show you my appreciation. Best regards, Oldniner
Oldniner, thanks. That’s not why I posted the poll, but I appreciate it anyway.
It’s interesting that no one on here who has voted buys single copy.
Other than more Niners coverage, anyone on here have a suggestion on something we could do that would make you more likely to subscribe or buy single-copy papers more often?
The liberal thing is also interesting to me. Tell me how that plays out in the paper, other than the editorial pages. Those are not produced by, and are autonomous from, the newsroom. I’m interested in how you see liberalism in the news pages.
I read the Observer on-line for local news and Niner’s coverage. I will usually pick up a Sunday paper for some of the special sections and for the store sales papers.
Coverage for the Niners is getting better, Jena is doing a great job with articles that are not just about the games, but about the players as well. That Sorensen guy is pretty good…just keep him away from the tv cameras. He’s always been a pretty solid voice for the Niners in my opinion.
With the change to the A-10 next season, it should be imperative that there be a separate section sometime next fall on the A-10 conference. Something to introduce the folks in Charlotte about the new opponents of the Niners. A player profile of the Niners would be cool too…I think you probably did something like that for the Bobcats at the start of their season.
Glad that you are keeping in tune with this board and are wanting to know what matters to Niner fans.
The sports section is good
You are aware that they are disussing the Charlotte Observer, right?

Mike, I read the Observer as it’s on my Yahoo home page, and I just click the headlines - and I read it for 49er news.
I do occassionally buy single copies (but I couldn’t make two selections, or could I?). About the only reason I buy the single copies are for the photos that we just can’t see (or see how cool it looks) online.
I guess more coverage will eventually lead to more pictures. I think it’s moving in the right direction. I have actually subscribed to the paper twice before, but cancelled after our coverage practically dried up. I was very close to subscribing this year, but if the coverage continues, it will be a no-brainer for me next year.
I agree. Jena is awesome. She’s the reason I will buy papers, so keep it up.
I would buy the paper if it:
- reported more points of view, especially politically
- even pretended to be semi-objective in its presentation of news
- was not run by snobby elitists
Lawrence Toppman is a friend of mine, though. Say hi to him for me if you bump into him.
