Well, Martin Iti has 24 hours to come to his senses and pull out of the draft. And it looks like he’s not going to, so there’s something I would like to say.
f*** him. There. I said it.
He took us for a ride. It wasn’t two months ago he said he was “testing the waters with the intention of coming back to Charlotte.”
Now he’s gone. And for what? A five-figure paycheck in Australia or in the NBDL or ABA? He could’ve been a special player, and could’ve helped us make that elusive NCAA run. It just goes to show how absolutely stupid some college athletes can be. Always in search of the almighty dollar - well, shows what foresight he has. Real smart, Martin.

He's not the one leading the chase, apparently (as often is the case). I don't know all of the facts but I'm not blaming Martin for this.
He deserves the blame, he should know who to listen to. He’s an adult and is capable of making up his own mind. When your coach tells you not to do it and you ignore him, that’s your own fault.
Cool. This gives ima9r stuff to claim was the real reason Iti left.
Really though, I’m not going to go that route with him. I’m unhappy with how things turned out, but he’s still a Niner. If he does (heh) make it to the NBA, Charlotte will be listed as his university and that’s a good thing.
In the future, we shouldn’t sign someone like Iti. Rodney yes, Iti no.
Just finished reading an article from the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel about Carton Christian leaving the Marquette program in a poor and unannounced manner, Christian through with MU, posted June 12, 2004. Several comments from Tom Crean sort of relate to the entire Iti situation, although Christian will be transferring to some other school (hopefully). They make sense, escpecially the second quote.
“He never bought into the concepts of dedication, hard work and family all the way across the board with his teammates and his coaches. Those have been and always will be the foundation of this program… but he had trouble grasping that you earn minutes through consistency and work ethic, that you have to interact with your teammates and basically understand the concept of team.”
“I think it’s unfortunately a part of where things are at today in college athletics. They are all different examples, isolated incidents. But it really does come down to the fact that there are standards and procedures that make up successful programs and really, you’re not going to deviate from those if you’ve got the best interests of the players and the university in mind.”
Thank you Courtney Rosegreen. I hope you and Martin don’t spend all of that $30k in one place. That’s right, that’s all your Ca$hMoneyPayDay is gona be worth because you are WAY too early. That bird isn’t done cookin’. Now, if Martin had stayed one more year and worked on his game some more, the 1st round and guaranteed $$ were more realistic.
I blame Martin but I don’t hold him as accountable as someone trying to cash him in like a lottery ticket, filling his head with unrealistic expectations in order to do so.
Most of that $30k should go towards paying us back for this upcoming yeaer’s scholarship that will now go unused. Because he essentially lied about his real intentions, and the obviousness of him not going in the third round, we don’t pursue a big man like we would have. That’s what’s burning me the most right now.

Who the hell do you blame then? He is an adult and accountable for his own decisions. I'm so tired of people doing stupid sh*t and not being held responsible for their own actions. As a society, we are always looking to blame someone else but this just in Lefty, Martin is a f****** idiot for leaving. What a joke.
Let me rephrase it. Martin is only partly to blame/hold accountable.

What part is he not to be blamed for?? He got the advice of his coaches who know more about this process than anyone else in his life. They told him to stay in school. He listened, and then didn’t talk to them anymore. So what part is MARTIN ITI not to be blamed for?
Can I reiterate my earlier statement…f*** MARTIN ITI!!!
Am I missing something here? ESPN’s NBA Draft Tracker, doesn’t list Iti at all or are they perhaps waiting until midnight to add him to the list.
I’m ready to close this chapter. I suppose now we’ll have to wait for teams to begin releasing schedules in August before there’s much more to discuss.
