GO A-10!

Just found this tidbit about the new NCAA rules on prep schools…

Saint Joseph's coach Phil Martelli said this latest issue is taking up more time at conference coaches meetings than the new rule eliminating text messaging, which begins in August.

Martelli, who serves on the board of the National Association of Basketball Coaches, said he has heard from a number of coaches looking into the subject. Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim, the current president of the NABC, said Wednesday night that he was hopeful there could be some sort of delay in implementing the rule so everyone could get adjusted.

Anyway, it’s nice to know that something was discussed at the recent A-10 meeting in Florida. Apparently most of it had to do with national security, though, since nothing has been reported from the league office in Philly!

Andy Katz on the NBA Draft underclassmen who have until Monday, 6/18 @ 5PM to make a decision, which includes GW’s Maureece Rice.

Maureece Rice, Jr., George Washington: GW coach Karl Hobbs said Thursday that Rice is expected to send in his paperwork and withdraw from the draft.

“As far as I know, he’s coming back,” Hobbs said.

Rice had worked out for the Washington Wizards but wasn’t getting good vibes about being selected. So it makes sense to withdraw. Getting Rice back means the Colonials should be able to be a competitor in the Atlantic 10 once again.

“I’m not sure how good we’ll be, but we’ll be competitive,” Hobbs said.

Hopefully Rice will withdraw and return for his senior season. The list of GW players who made the “wrong” decision includes Danilo Pinnock and SirValiant Brown.
