Enquirer.com: Xavier nabs new recruit

Thanks, run. One thing I have wondered about is why we don’t see more transfers from DII. The news from Xavier says the player will have to sit for a year. Is the rule II transfers the same as D1? We have had a number of guys leaving for division 2 but I don’t recall anyone who transfered in. Seems like DII would produce as good young players as JuCo. Why don’t we see more of them coming into D1?

Gamer, I would assume that the reason we don’t see more transfers from lower divisions to D-1 is twofold – they have to sit out a year and there aren’t that many who are D-1 material. Yes, there is the ocassional Darrell Armstrong (Fayetteville State), Scottie Pippen (Central Arkansas), and Ben Wallace (Virginia Union) who prove to be NBA-caliber, but they are the rare exception. On opening day for the 06-07 NBA season, there were 442 players on the respective team rosters. Of the 353 who played college ball, only 4 came from non-D-1 schools.

Speaking of transfers, A. J. Hawkins is gone at Bona, reportedly closer to his Oklahoma home. Also rumors of transfers at La Salle and St. Joe’s, but nothing substantiated on those.

:lmao:Ouch. But who the heck goes to St Bonaventure and expects to be a winner? Was the kid dumb? It’s not like they’ve ever been a power house.

Eason, you need to do a little research on Bona hoops. Like the Niners, their heydey in men’s basketball occured during the 1970s with a Final Four appearance and an NIT championship. The FF team was anchored by hall-of-famer Bob Lanier. The NIT team included current Rhode Island coach Jim Baron.

Now, you are correct that the Bonnies have suffered since the Weldergate scandal. Former Bona coach Jim Baron was consistently putting a postseason Bonnies team on the court, including ones that beat us 2 out of 3 times in OOC play during the 1999-00 and 2000-01 seasons.
