Thomas Van Der Mars - C/PF - 2011

According to this (scroll down) we’re interested along with Tulane, Portland, Colorado State, and Valparaiso:

http://www.europeanprospects.com/information-database/ncaa-recruiting/ncaa-recruiting-european-players-class-2011/

From the Netherlands, Van Der Mars is 2m10 tall (which is about 6’11"). He has his own youtube channel of highlights here: http://www.youtube.com/user/ThomasvanderM

Born in 1990, so he’s already 20 or 21 (god i’m old!).

Canarias Basketball Academy is only in its 4th year of existence but it is certainly the pipeline to be connected with for European talent. We have seen video of Joey & Kloof who play at CBA. As I have previously mentioned the team was in at Rose Hill & URI this past Feb. Their play against top prep schools at URI (Kent, STMA, Lee, ND) was a good test and measure of their talents.

A CBA player from Holland that may have been overlooked on the board is Thomas van der Mars 6’ 11”/231. He has lots of interested schools: Wake Forrest, Providence, Colorodo State, Tulane, Portland, Wichita State, UNC Charlotte. He displays a better inside game than Joey but also hits from outside, especially the short range J. He has a PVP like hook along with the baby hook with both hands. He receives the ball well in traffic, uses the glass well, shows good hands & footwork. Early part of the video is against ND Prep at URI.

It seems like Wake Forest is mentioned as recruiting a lot of the same players we are. Maybe it is my typical pre-season optimism getting the best of me, but for the first time I feel like we are going head-to-head with them and not out of the hunt once they show up. Sure they are in the ACC–but the ACC is not really the ACC anymore and kids know it. Going to Wake generally means that as a player you are going to have the opportunity to lose on TV a lot.

interesting, wonder if he comes in as a Freshman or something else…

You think the NCAA will let us have him cleared to play before he turns 25?

clt worries about this kids judgement. when you see whipped cream, you get the job done.

I like his game according to those videos.

Save an epic performance in Varsity Blues, it has been all down hill since Dawsons Creek ended

Going to the Univ of Portland.
